my most glorious Warhammer 40K memory is when my White Scars Space Marines (all geared towards fast attack) completely wiped out a teenage girl's Dark Eldar in basically the first turn

she was not very happy

You ever read that story of that one tournament where some guy was cheesing drop pods and would drop his army in after a turn or two, so some guy perfectly spaced out his figures around the edges of the table and the guy for some reason couldn't drop in and lost before the match even started? It's like one of those insane tabletop moments.
yeah, it made me massively jealous of the chutzpah and the big brain required to do it. one of my favourite stories

lmao of course she wasn't, thankfully they were buffed in 8th and 9th a bit. usually D.Eldars make for really quick matches, either win or lose.

I dunno I liked the first series better because of the squad sizes and over all larger combat. Soulstorm is only good when modded though with something like DOWPRO. Vanilla wise, yeah DOW2 is superior. Still DOW1 has all the delicious memes. SPESS MEHRENS!

NOT THE TOILET SEAT INSIGNIA SPESH MUHREENZ NOOOOO :grexus: :holygoldenskull:
Soulstorm, Dark Crusade and Retribution for me please.

Dark Eldar campaign in Soulstorm best one for me

If I played tabletop I'd probably play Dark Eldar. I like how they have spikes and floating platforms. I hate the stupid skill bar that Soulstorm added though. Also the flying units were junk.

yeah they weren't very well designed but the Necron campaign in Dark Crusade is also memorable. and they are very good in tabletop as well. Dark Eldars for tabletop are good if they're played with speed, you don't want a match to last too much, i was considering trying to build an army some years ago but i would rather buy a ready-made one if i would start playing.

The Necrons for me were so hard to play. I was never good at the game to begin with. I'm what you'd call a casual, but it felt like Necrons play so slow and even with all the Necron lord skills it's so easy to lose a squad and be in danger of elimination. When in a dire situation Necrons just can't turtle and go on defense like the other factions can. The campaigns in both games were pretty well done in general.

I still like the original campaign in the first one where Angelos takes out Sindri and Bale. I loved how DOW 2 tied up loose ends in the story and finally gave it a true ending.

I don't think I'd ever play the tabletop. I don't think I have the attention span in general to play the game, but I have always wanted to buy the figures and make dioramas or something. The cost of the figures though leads me away from doing so though.

GW is notoriously infamous for overpricing. i don't have the time to sit and actually paint the minis myself atm, hence the ready-made army, many hobbyists who just love to paint and put the minis up for sale. it's not just the cost of the figures, it's the brushes, various tools to paint more precisely, the paints themselves. Citadel paints are good but they can be pricy.

the hobby on itself as in the old days to actually collect the army unit-by-unit, to paint and to store properly can be expensive and thankfully the digital games really opened the world to more people, it's much easier to just master couple rts games, read the entire wiki and the Lexicanum and start rolling in the rpg games like Inquisitor Martyr etc.

edit: and of course the books, the many books.
i propose to OP these two trilogies:

Path of the Eldar: Path of the Seer, Path of the Warrior, Path of the Outcast
by Gav Thorpe

Path of the Dark Eldar: Path of the Renegade, Path of the Incubus, Path of the Archon
by Andy Chambers

because I want to? do I need any other reason ? uwu
Which Warhammer. The shooty bang bang grenade boom one, or the one that's medieval and has walking rat men?
