Just brought a new gaming mouse and it has a "fire button"

I don't know, what is it? I'd imagine it'll be a programmable button, how you would go about programming it is beyond me, but its not exactly uncommon for gaming mice to have random buttons. (My old one had two which activated numlock and another thing)

Look into rapid-fire or double-click, there is a good chance that it will be one of those.

Microsoft has some fine mice and keyboards which are more than satisfactory.

My gaming mouse had a macro for this as one of the presets, I'm pretty sure it's used to shoot in games, i.e L4D2, Counter Strike.

Exactly. It's a rather useless macro, so I changed it out with something more useful, OP should do the same.
