As for the first online multiplayer game, yeah it’s probably Quake Arena (1999)
Half-life was released in 1998 with deathmatch, CS beta 1 in 1999, ultima online was released in 1997, everquest I was march 1999.
Probably, it's the oldest game I could think of.
I kept remembering Red Alert 1 (1996) but that no longer has the online support I do believe.
The first counter srike was back in 1999 but only in beta. You know, CS is nearly 20 years old. Hope valve does something speical next year to celebrate 20 years of CS, the game that really made valve into a household name.
