CPU Clock speed
Hi guys, Just gonna post this at this ETS2 discussion page, ill be posting on serveral games that i play discussion page so if you find this unrelevant, then its okay. IF you know stuff about computers, please help me abit. :)

Some times, while idling, my clock speed of my CPU is like, 1796MHz. And then my temperature keeps going up to around 70 Deg C (I limited the procssor power to 50% Max in Power Options)

Other times, while also idling, my clock speed is 798MHz, Which is way better and keeps my computer cooler.

This sometimes happens on diffrent days, Etc: Monday & tuesday @1796, Wed @798, Thursday @1796, ...

Sometimes its on 1796,some times on 798. May i know how to keep it at 798? Keeps my games running smooth when running at 798, cause when running games bumps up to 1796, But when starting games at 1796, bumps up to around 2k-3k.

I am not that familiar with laptop cpu's, but I will relate what I do know. The i5 cpu has what is called Speed Step, or EIST. This feature downclocks the cpu and lowers the voltage when it detects that it doesn't need to be running full throttle. It also lets the cpu "overclock" itself a bit if it detects that it is needed and can get away with it and stay inside it's thermal range.

you say that you "limited the processors power to 50%". Am I correct to assume that you did this in windows "Power Options" in the "Control Panel"? I am not familiar with that setting, it might be the one you want. In my Win7, I have one that is called "Power Saver" that controlls the cpu speed and power, along with other peripheral. Is that basically the same thing?

pretty much I don't know of anyway of controlling how you can control how it changes power and speeds. The cpu and motherboard chipset have sensors that keep track of thermals, and then cpu usage and control things. You pretty much have to go with what it does.

personally, that was the first thing I disabled when I got my i7 desktop so I don't have a lot of experience with it . lol

Yes i did that. You know how to underclock during idle?

it should lower itself when it detects that nothing is happening. If you are doing anything at all it will probably prevent it from going to the lowest possible speed. You may also have some other background program or task that is happening that may prevent it from going to it's lowest setting.

I personally don't know anything you can do to force it to go slower.
