Lenovo G770 CPU Upgrade Intel I3 - up to Intel I7 - question
Lenovo G770 CPU Upgrade

I have a Lenovo G770 . My chipset is:

Motherboard Name Lenovo 20089
Motherboard Chipset Intel Cougar Point HM65, Intel Sandy Bridge

and I'm looking at some quad-core replacement.
My current Mobile DualCore Intel Core i3-2350M, 2300 MHz (23 x 100) along side Intel HD3000 and AMD Radeon 6650M.

In the datasheet for this model, I've seen it can go up to i7 - 2620, but that's a dual core cpu as well.

So my question is, can it be done, are there any quad core cpus I can install, and does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this topic?

Technically it might be doable, issue is the price of a used i7 2620QM, another issue is that you'd likely need a different/custom PSU as well since the one you have is exactly tailored to the power draw of your laptop, and that i7 likely draws quite more power than the i3. Another issue would be cooling. Your laptop's cooling system is designed to dissipate the heat of the i3, it might not be able to handle the i7.

Overall, not worth it.
