Cpu cooler back plate question
This is gonna be hard to explain but what are the things that come out with holes in them, they dont seem to have a purpose? I always see people put them on so that they are facing up or down on the mobo but does it matter if it's sideways? If I look at the back of my mobo on the backplate I put it on sideways.. I mean it's screwed in and it fit and everything seems to work just really curious

what cpu cooler did you get?

many tower coolers have a back plate to help support the cooler

212evo back plate looks like this when installed on an intel board

*match the 3 holes to make room for the screws for intel cpu bracket

or like this for amd

*can be rotated 180º

that first pic is what mine looks like, I got 212 evo... but i didnt screw in those 3 holes (the 2 on one side with 1 on opposite) guessing it doesnt matter if its side ways

you dont need to use the 3 holes, just make sure they are over the screws for the cpu bracket

The three holes in that bracket are intended to provide clearance for the bracket to be mounted properly and not have interference with the three screws holding the CPU socket in place. If the holes aren't aligned with the screws, then you won't get proper heatsink alignment and fastening. If you don't have those three screws on your motherboard, then don't worry about it.

If your temperatures are fine, then you probably don't have an issue.
