Sound Card vs. MOBO
Hello guys.

I'm not looking for a perfect answer, but does this MOBO -> "Asus TUF B550M Plus Gaming" have good sound on it? I know it's personal preference, but what is your opinion? :-)

i am pleased with Realtek audio , so see no issue . If one wants Dolby Surround , it is another thing .

Are you going to only use a headphone?
For 5.1 or better speakers hdmi to a receiver is best.

Many would argue that the onboard sound chip is 'good enough' on modern motherboards. I say it's only good enough if there isn't a comparison, and the very reason I've decided to stick with a dedicated sound card from Creative all these years.

It's sorta like the 60Hz vs 120+Hz argument for a monitor. It's impossible to describe the next level of experience to someone who hasn't experienced it before.

Most onboard sound doesn't go past 24bits which is 2^24bits of sample frequency steps sound cards can run as high as 2^32

Thank you. That leaves me with only 1 choice, which is to try out a dedicated sound card. That should also give 1-5% more horse power for my CPU which should be 5-15 more FPS :-) Not much but I'll take it.

I'm not that techy when it comes to sound. Can you explain this, so it's easier to understand? Maybe just explain why 2^32 is better?

Keep in mind you'll also need a high quality output device to take advantage of that, and for gaming purpose you probably won't be able to tell much of a difference.

At the end of the day a sound card shouldn't really be that high of a priority in case you're on a budget. It's literally better to first spend the money on every other part of your build including the monitor.

Well, my PC comes with a ALC S1200A 7.1 High Definition. I dunno if that's for MOBO, or GPU sound card..

Damn it.. I don't think my Apple Earpods is a high enough quality output device.. Also, I need that crispy sound for ASMR, and not gaming. Thank you for pointing it out.

Don't bother with sound cards. Get an external DAC/Amp.
