Highest CPU Windows XP can theoratically run on?
What's the highest CPU/motherboard that XP can run on? I was shocked to find something like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/355995823372

NEW Windows XP + 10 Retro Gaming PC - i7-4770k, 512GB SSD, GTX 750Ti, 8GB Ram

The XP is 32 bit with 10 64 bit if you look at the screenshots.

only up to GTX 960 4GB.
A GTX 780 Ti would be faster by a significant amount and someone managed to even pull of SLI titans.
32 bit xp can only use 4 gigabytes of ram however. 64 bit xp seem to be able to use 128 gigabyes for some reason.

every OS that claims 64bit is just extended 32bit.....only phones run real 64bit OSs......

everyone seems to forget that there was a 64bit version of xp, but it was buggy as hell

SSDs were a problem in XP iirc, the trim command had to be run manually using command-line. Much better to use a good 7200rpm drive in an XP build.
i have not forgotten about it, i have actually used it. i did not have any issues.

xp has no problem with ssd, just disable the auto defrag on it

i have a p3 system with win95 on a ssd, boots in like 5 seconds

auto defrag can cause issues no matter what. i usually leave it off and defrag manually. though i do not defrag SSDs.

Technically you can run a 32 bit OS on any 64 bit machine but you would lose the benefits.
The opposite however is not possible, for example Win 11 is exclusively 64 bit and will not run on a 32 bit machine. There was a rumor of XP in 64 bit format but it was never actualized as a stable version OS.
Win Vista/7/8/10 are dual compatible and can install versions of 32 or 64 bit.

Finding XP 32 bit drivers for newer HW is a whole other issue. But the OS will run in most cases where the chipset of MB is at least compatible driver wise.

Unless your sound and graphic drivers have their own support for XP and disable the onboard stuff which is usually garbage anyways.

I used it; it wasn't buggy per-say, the real issue was lack of Drivers because at that time, there was not a wider range of 64bit Driver support. Heck that was even lacking under Vista, until Win7 came along.

The highest I would suggest with XP SP2/SP3 32bit would be Core2Duo / Core2Quad; AMD 754 / 939 / AM2 / AM3 stuff.

Once you are using something on AMD above the Phenom (such as FX4, 6, 8, 9) or Intel Core i3/i5/i7 (like i5-2400 / 2500K) then the minimum OS I could suggest would be Win7 SP1 64bit

P3 is actually a pretty decent/stable system for XP with plenty of support for older slower titles that are speed sensitive. You just can't do Youtube very well with it on something like My Pal which DOES have security updates.

I mentioned that lots of times and get laughed at. I think people are beginning to have short term memory loss or something. Windows 7 fixed a lot of the broken 64 bit mess but not entirely removing a lot of useful things that lead to the death of the computer scene except for the 100 or so FPS gamers that never grow out of Mom's basement.
