What's your max budget for this?

For a Gaming Laptop? That's simply not enough; all that will buy you is junk, sorry to say.

Even with a deep discount the best you'll find starts at approx $900-1400+

For this money you can`t get anything remotely resembling what you want it for, try twice this budget for decent gaming laptop.

Looking at BestBuy.com right now (unless you could buy from some place else, which I strongly suggest) then for anything "worth" really buying in an RTX 4070 Gaming Laptop you're looking at around $1650-1700

Now some things might be on-sale; I'm still looking. The only "cheap" one I find is HP, which we all know are junk.

Something that is still decent while being priced somewhere below $1650; there is this one from MSI

If you really want something like this cheaper; wait until the Black Friday + Cyber Week Sales events starting Nov 29th and lasting approx 1 week or so.

Hey, the first laptop I ever got when going off to college was an HP Pavilion. Not a "gaming laptop" by any means, but it was good enough to play Doom 3 while sitting in the cafeteria between classes. And Debian ran beautifully on it.

That's fine and all but I myself can not and will not whole-heartedly go and suggest something from Dell or HP to anyone, period. There are MUCH better choices out there.

Best bet, get a cheap HP generic laptop for Work/School stuff. And a Steamdeck or equivalent for gaming.

You're not going to find a cheap gaming laptop worth a dime below $1000, the average is around $1500, high end ones around $2500.

Steam Deck is not all it's cracked up to be. I had 2 of them, sold them. To me it's just junk. But I'm also pushing 50 and my eyes aren't what they used to be. So there is that factor too. Trust me, I want to like Steam Deck, it's just not there yet. The hardware needs to get better. Maybe by the time the Xbox hand-held and Steam Deck 2 come out; it will be where it should be.

But yes if you are on the go alot, Steam Deck is not a bad idea.

Unless you need to do work on a Laptop for certain reasons, then never buy those, always buy or build a Desktop PC which can run way better and last way longer; especially considering the money spent.

a $2000 Laptop is going to have a life of around 3-5 years at the very most. Beyond maybe 3 years for many Laptops they will struggle to play the newest of demanding games.
