It's not as practical as it was in 2017 though. Sometime 'round the G.P.U. shortage nvidia started crippling the mining capabilities of the cards 'cause the gamer segment of the market was complaining that miners would buy up all of their cards.

G.P.Us. ended up becoming non-viable for Etherium mining for some reason or another. I forget exactly why but there was something about dedicated etherium mining devices yadda yadda...

Not for money but used to run SETI at Home to let computer GPU help search data for signs of ET life. They must have found it because they stopped the project.

I haven't tried it. I recently ran some napkin-math numbers to see what I might be able to expect with vast.ai, but the margins didn't seem like they justified buying any more GPU than I'd use myself.
