Steam continues to Hijack Controllers. How can we solve this?
For the last 4 years steam has been hijacking controllers and it is insane to me that this has not yet been fixed.

I am currently using a NSO Switch N64 Controller https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/nintendo-64-controller/

I have Project64 launched to play my N64 games in an up-scaled resolution via PC.

The controller works fine. The only issue is that steam hijacks the controller. I have to close steam in order for it to work on Project64 or any other software for that matter.

Is there a way to blacklist or disable a controller on Steam? I play Idle Champions on Steam and would like to leave it running in the background while I play on Project64.

steam -> settings -> controllers
select controller, and hide device

done

in steam -> library -> select game -> gear -> properties -> controller, disable steam input

or add the emulator to steam as non steam game, and map its controller to standard x360 layout

Hello there. Thanks for the response. Using x360 layout to play on an official Nintendo controller to Play N64 games defeats the purpose.

I have looked up and down controller settings and cannot find a hide device button. Is it possible if you could post a picture?

Steam settings > Controller

Uncheck "Enable Steam-Input" for your controller type.
