Does it not use the HDMI output? Or is that for the onboard graphics only?

Motherboard rear HDMI and DP can supply audio but the Onboard GPU needs to be present and active. This audio would come from said GPU and not from the Motherboard Audio Codec that power the 3.5mm Analog Ports and possible TosLink/SPDIF

Which CPU are you using?

Are you waiting on a Dedicated GPU to come in?

Might need to check the BIOS and enable HDMI/DP Audio for onboard gpu

I am currently using the onboard GPU as I'll be installing my RX 6600 XT this Friday.
CPU is the 7800X3D.

While the GPU is quite poor, yes it has one.

You might need to check BIOS and enable the HDMI/DP Audio that way. It will then be an active option in OS via GPU Driver. Then check the Windows Audio Settings and set the HDMI as default. It might not say HDMI/DP but it should list as something from AMD at least as opposed to Realtek.
