Is it okay now to upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10, specifically for gaming ?
Hello,
When windows 11 was first released there was a lot of talk about how windows 10 was better for gaming. The consensus seemed to be that staying with windows 10 offered about 10% more FPS and better overall performance. Now that it has been I while a was wondering if that was still the same or has windows 11 caught up to, and maybe even surpassed windows 10 with gaming ?
Thanks for any thoughts/help on this topic. :claptrap:

Windows 11 is better for gaming. 11 has features such as multi-plane overlay which 10 lacks.

Windows 11 is better for gaming because of newer features, but so is Linux, but they set a pretty low bar with 10 to begin with.

Do you have 12th generation Intel or higher cpu? If so, Windows 11 has been "optimized" for this hardware by use of p/e cores. One needs to demo the OS oneself. No outsider can guarantee anything.

For me with a 9th generation cpu, it's been stable since it debuted back in late June 2021 as a DEV build and most of my games open faster and run smoother than on 10. But that's not universally applicable to everyone, for sure!

Do not do an in-place upgrade though.

Do a clean install. If something doesn't have a Win11 driver listed on the hardware/chipset website, just use the Win10 driver

My new AMD build will be on Win11 Home. Going to order the USB version.

Don't bother paying full price for Windows, you can use it for free if you just make the install USB yourself, the provide the ISO on their website, anyone can do it.

What you're basically paying for is a license that just enables some customization (which can be bypassed with other programs and registry edits), removes the watermark (which can also be removed with a simple registry edit), and for a USB install disk that takes maybe five minutes to produce.

Those that really want their Windows to be activated for some reason can find a legit key from a third party for as little as 20 to 30 bucks. Don't give MS all that money, there's no reason to. Windows is entirely functional without it and it was their decision to make it that wa, they just don't tell you about it because then nobody would buy the license and it would be forced again.

Order what? Just make your own Win11 USB. It contains all Editions already.
Download the Win11 ISO from Microsoft.
Make boot usb media using RUFUS.

Can go online and buy a Windows 10 or 11 PRO product key for around $20 or so.

Never buy a WinOS USB. They are configured as Read-Only and can't be changed. This basically the same as buying a DVD which is obsolete the moment you get it, or might already be obsolete. As you want the USB media to be 23H2, not older.

If update the current PC, or you are building a new PC you can have Win11 activated for free on one PC, via your current Win10 product key.

What's RUFUS and I am building a completely new AMD rig.

Rufus is an old program that can make bootable media, it's been used to install Windows for years and has seen a lot more use these days to bypass Windows 11 requirements

Thanks very much for the positive feedback. I decided to do the upgrade to windows 11 (will do the full install from scratch down the road.) so far it has worked out very good. I've only tried playing battlefield 2042 so far but it feels a little snappier and no longer causing my computer to restart when I exit the game.
Once again, thanks. :claptrap:

Might be old in terms of how long it's been out. However it still gets updated regularly to ensure certain features are available with how the bootable formatting and boot triggers and/or emulation works and such.

I wouldn't call it an upgrade.

my comment:
if you want to see the new windows, install it. if not...no problem. what has changed with windows 11 is the hardware specs. i dont see a reason to install windows 11 before windows 10 is no more supported. so it doesnt matter, if one uses 10 or 11. thats mainly it...to me.

Plus if you doing a build, buying yourself a Win10 Pro key would be fine and get you both Win10 and 11. You buy Win11, you're stuck with that. Win10 will be supported until 2028
