Can I use a VR headset as a monitor? PLEASE read full post before answering.:)

Before anyone answers "just use Virtual Desktop", that is NOT the experience I'm looking for. I'm looking to put a standard 2D image onto the whole headset display. I'm NOT looking for a 3D environment with a virtual monitor I can look at or away from. I'm truly sorry if I'm not making sense, but I'm trying my best. I've done hours of research and have not been able to find a definitive answer to this question.

I'm looking to play standard games with the VR headset display itself as a monitor. Example: can I play, say, Metro Exodus or Arkham Knight on a VR headset? I'm looking for a function akin to duct-taping a monitor to your face, basically.

No, nor would you actually want to. That is basically what the failed "VR" of the '80s was like. It is terrible because your brain and body "feel" your head movements and then your eyes are seeing something that is jarringly different than what is expected. This causes a substantial amount of nausea and discomfort.

None of the current VR hardware or software developers are going to make what you ask for because it is nausea inducing for the vast majority of people.

Because I want the immersion of playing games in VR without having to keep my view/head completely steady. I dunno if that even makes sense, honestly. Like I think it'd be cool to have my entire view encompassed by the game I'm playing. I mean, if you really think/know that it causes mass nausea, I'll take your word for it. I'd just like to try it for myself, but apparently even that isn't possible.

The current generation of VR technology is simply not made to do such things imo, to give you a straight answer, yes, you can use your headset as a monitor, but I do not think your brain will like it, or your eyes for that matter.

Best you can do with a VR headset is play your flat screen games on a giant screen "in " a 3D environment

OR you can do this use the projector as your monitor and sit 3 feet from the screen loll

It is crazy but somewhat like you are describing, You are going to want to get 3-4 curved monitors and plug them in as one screen thru the GPU. sit your chair in the middle of the front primary screen. It is not thru the VR unit but very close. The bigger the monitor/TV the more the background environment will be blocked out when you sit between the screens. But yea they don't make the VR headsets to do what you want. Different eye setup that the brain sees and interprets.
