Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti black screen using new 144hz monitor
I just got a ASUS VG278HV 144HZ monitor and when I connect it the screen just goes black.
I am using the DVI port.
I tried the same cable on monitor on another machine also with windows10 and no problem.
The GFX card on the other machine is even older.
If i use a DisplayPort to HDMI it works but the problem is that I am stuck at 60hz then.

Anyone experienced this or know what the issue is?

TBH, it was probably a mistake to buy a monitor which lacks a displayport today, especially at 144hz. I'd return it and buy another one whilst you have the time.

I agree with Gimp, best to just return it while you can and get a model with a DisplayPort.

Same here. I have a few monitors and the ASUS on DVI never worked even with the supplied cable, but the same cable on a Samsung works without problem. Same behaviour on gtx 970 and 1080ti. The internet has dozens of posts saying the same thing.

I took out the GFX card and looked at the pins.. one of them is not complete!
I guess it's defect so I am getting it swapped and then we will see:)

If one of these RED pins is missing, that is normal for DVI-D since those are Digital-Only

Seriously though, return the Monitor and buy one with DisplayPort 1.2
And use DP 1.2 male to male cable.
HDMI or VGA will only net you 60Hz

No it's one of these pins - look at the one second last from the right:

I am 100% sure now that the GFX card is the problem and probably just because of this little problem. I'll try and have them swap the monitor too:)

well ♥♥♥♥ me:) that took me by suprise!! I shipped the PC back though (new build) and they will debug it.
One thing that WAS broken was the locking mechanism to keep the GFX card in place.. so something has happend during transportation.
I'll post in here what the problem was/is when they get back with me it may help someone else later who finds this thread from google:)

The GFX card was defect and replaced:)

can you edit your post title to something like (solved) or [solved] to indicate that you already fixed the problem thru gpu replacement?

btw: 60 hz is just a minimum worse than 144hz. i didnt get it yet? who needs it?
diodes that are faster than the 60 hz diodes exist, lets build a new monitor. 144hz is for 3d gaming. not to win in cs:go.
