Macs are a terrible choice for gaming for two key reasons. First of all, a Mac's hardware is designed for rendering and business.entertainment work. It's not designed for gaming and falls far short of meeting the requirements for games like ARK, which has notoriously high hardware requirements.
The other problem is compatbility. Very few games are compatible with Mac OS. And I'm not sure Ark is one of them.
Will you have a really bad time? Yes.
Why? Because you're trying to play a game that's not well optimized for starters, and this game is very heavily intensive software, which will tax on the hardware badly for your Mac, not only that even if you set it to the lowest setting, the most you're going to get is 5 - 20 FPS depending how many NPC's are around you, and if too many will cause your game to lock up, and/or crash.
Bottomline, you need decent hardware to play Ark in the 1st place, so if you want to play it, if you want help on finding what parts to get to build your own desktop, we will help you, but you need to let us know a few things before we can help, such as budget, do you have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers/headset/headphones already?
ARK stresses a GTX1080 Ti to breaking point before you even apply maximum settings. I seriously doubt a Macbook could even load the game properly.
Btw, your MacBook has a DUAL CORE mobile i5. It's weaker in spec vs my $450 Alienware R2 with i5-6200U and GTX 960M.
Finally a MAC with the power to play games. Pity it'll still have nightmarish compatibility problems.
TL;DR you're pretty much screwed.
He could play but had really bad lag loading in big bases and crashed once in awhile, so I would say buy it and try it if it's to bad refund it because like I said it not nearly as bad with optimization as it was.
There are ways with launch options to run it in dx 10 with low quality.
What you've neglected to mention is just how laughable Ark looks with those Launch Options enabled. It literally looks like a PS1 game.
I wouldn't suggest playing on officials because they tend to run much worse than unofficials, just look around there is lots with great admins.
Welcome to 1998. The punchline is, these aren't even the lowest available settings!
