Adding a friend search function based on your interests
I would like to suggest adding a friend search function to the client. The user marks in their client that they are looking for friends and their preferred language/languages for communication and gets access to a list of other users who are also looking for friends and with whom they have the greatest similarity in preferred games and time spent playing them. You can contact any of the users on the list and start communicating based on your interests.

I'd recommend looking on the forums for the games you're into instead. Steam doesn't need to become a dating site for you to organize a play session with some like-minded strangers.

Heck no thank you. I don't want people contacting me just because I have a game they are interested in.

If Valve ever put something like this into Steam, it needs to be opt in and it has to be off by default.

This is what game hubs and Steam groups are for. Each can do exactly this, including chatting with each other in group chats without being friends first.
