Disable autoplay by Default.. including broadcasts on store page.. please save us from glitchy video bugs..
Lately i'm losing track of how many times i've had to clear steams broser cache and cookies cause some video locked up the steam client.. And here the latest was cause some dev put a broadcast stream on their store page and it was set to AUTOPLAY.. Yep it locked up the page and i had to clear, cancel, and refresh..

With a fresh clean cache videos load just fine in the client. That only lasts so long and the page lockups occur quite often nowadays.. But since of course videos are set to autoplay which i have to disable every time.. heck they defalut to MUTED SOUND anyway sooo why do u even play them automatically?

Please just change the default of Video and Streams like this to DONT PLAY.. Autoplay should be an opt in thing seeing as video playback is still buggy as crap like it has been for the past how many years.. Though in recent months stability has been getting worse..

I'm not even gonna chase my tail in tech support cause these issues are like a dog chasing a bus.. They keep happening and happening all the time yet you never catch the solution in the end.. Lets just default video playpack to OFF by default sooo that we can sidestep the major issue..

The only other real fix would be to add a new button to the top of the steam client that adds a script that does a few things.. (preserves age check info, clears cache, and cookies, disables autoplay of videos and reloads the current page) thats right a button like that would be a wonderfull thing of beatuy or you could just change the default state of the video player..

I think changing the value of the autoplay state is a waaaay easier fix to implement both on dev time and the qc process as it doesnt require any scripting UI asset development or the associated testing that those would need.. It would just require changing a currently implemented default value..

The dev streams are annoying and I've been harping about that for a while.

The age check is now a session based cookie and will NOT be stored.

Refresh/reload is there... Steam > Settings > Interface and the middle check box. Or F5.

yes i know theres refresh reload.. it doesnt work then video causes lockups.. What isnt on the UI is a clear cache and cookies widget.. u have to dig into the settings for that.. then u have to refresh/reload the page thats locked up followed by diabling the autoplay that help cause it in the first place..

they could create a widget that does this all at once.. OOOOR they could just disable autoplay of video streams by default..

Changing the default state is the tremenously better option from many points of view including the important "cost of invested development resources" point of view (which comes down to prolly the cost of a cup of coffee to some schmuck to find and change a boolean value)

Try to shop on a limited phone network and see how much fun the autoplay streams are.

yeah they arent very bandwidth sensitve friendly at valve.. they think everyone has tons of unlimited bandwidth at corporate backbone speeds apparently..

maybe if ajiz bagg's anti net neutrality corporate buddies capped valves badwith or put huge fees on it valve might rethink using badwidth like toilet paper..

yes i've found that already.. not sure it was there when i OP'd.. now if only youtubes could be completely blocked on the steam client it would be great.. So that instead of opening in client it would open youtube in the defualt browser avoiding the client lockup that always happens with youtubes player in steam..
