Restoring Account
My account was recently logged into by someone and they changed many things on my profile. When I finally was able to log in to my profile and get it back, I didn't even know what to click on because everything was in Russian. Once I was able to switch my language back to English, I noticed that my friends list only had 2 people on it. Of course one of the people on the friends list had their location as Russia.
Anyways, I was devastated to see that all my friends that I've made over the 6 years I've been on Steam and have added onto my friends list were gone just like that.
I've been reaching out to Steam support a lot recently, mostly with help securing my account, but also with asking about how I can get my friends list back.
Now I figured that surely it'd be easy to just restore my account to a previous version of itself or automatically have my friends added back again because there must be some history of the person who hacked my account deleting them.
But sadly, I was told no by Steam support. I've never had any problems with my accounts on anything over the years and this is a first time for me. It's been very stressful dealing with all of these different websites saying someone is logging in and all of that nonsense.
Anyways, the main point of this is that I wish Steam had a way of restoring my account back to the way it was or at least getting my friends list back. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever experienced this.
Thank you for reading, take care. :steamsad:

Or maybe you could have simply protected your account properly in the first place. Valve gave you enough ways to do that.

I did have my account protected. There wasn't much more I could've done

Clearly you weren't protecting your account since it got hijacked.

Then how did someone get your secret account name, your secret password and physical access to your phone to access your Steam Mobile Authenticator?

Check websites before you give them your login details would have helped. That's something you should do for any site, whether it's http or https, if you will be entering confidential information. Can use sites like this

as posted by others, here's what you should do:
scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
deauthorize all devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
revoke any api key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey
change your password on a clean computer.
generate new back up codes https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
unfriend/report/block the account(s) that are involved in this mess.

until you really secure your account again, that "hacker" might still be able to access it.

you might also want to think about getting a decent security software.

one more thing to consider, your account might have been used to send phishing links to your friends, and they unfriended/reported/blocked your account because of that. that might also explain why the Steam Support can't restore your friends list...

First, get your account and PC secured and make sure that is taken care of as helpfully posted about above, then see this about deleted friends :

Thank you for the help. I've scanned with different software and even changed my virus protection software.

Wow thank you so much. It seems like a process to go through the Notepad and stuff to find the users, but honestly it's a lot better than nothing, I appreciate you for showing me that

Yea, I've also really opened up eyes to the whole "Save this password" thing on Chrome for different websites. Just sucks to see this type of stuff happen
