You will not be able to trade until about five days after the most recent password reset.
its very disappointing regarding this delay of use of trading of item in dota 2 due to change password. steam how bout us that just only want to change our password we did not know this consequences when we change our password and now we need to wait for how many days. i really need to trade my item in dota 2. hope theres a way for those legitimate owner of account incase like this have way to speed the process of waiting so were not frustrate like this.

i'm very disappointed hope steam have action in this matter.

You know what would be even more frustrating?

Getting your account stolen, and having all your items traded away. That's why this 5 day delay is in place in case someone gets their account stolen so the hijacker can't trade away the items.

And no I don't think there is a way to bypass this delay.

sad cant trade for 5 days valve give a warning next time

Warnings are not relevant. The cool down only triggers on password RESETS. What do you want it to say? You already forgot your password in the first place.

Honestly im with BOOMY. You hate it now,and so do i,as a legit owner of this account. HOWEVER u would regret it all when a hacker gets into ur account and steals EVERYTHING.happened to my friend.the reset gives u a chance to save ur things before its too late.

Like Satoru said the cooldown only occurs if you RESET your password. So if someone were to hack your email and then go to Steam they could reset/change your password immediately and steall all your wallet funds and inventory items, and though you may eventually get your account back you won't get any of your Steam wallet funds or inventory items returned.

I tried changing mine because it kept giving me an "incorrect password" message, but the problem was actually that Steam was down. Now I can't play TF2 Co-Op because I can't buy OR trade for tickets.

Still, it's nice to know that Valve gives an even longer cooldown to protect against account theft than against bad credit cards. Unfortunately, password changes should theoretically be more common than payment method changes. I assume some people changed their password after Heartbleed, if they had the same one on affected sites, and I'm sure they would've appreciated a warning before losing trade for 5 days. That way, you could at least make all the transactions you had to before getting locked out.

Changing your password does not trigger the 5 day cooldown, requesting a reset does. There is a difference.

Most users that changed after heartbleed would have done it through the change password option, not through the "I forgot my password". Same with users who change their password on a timely manner for security reasons, they don't use the "I forgot my password" option.

This topic is almost one year old...

Quit forgetting your password. They don't know if you are being hijacked or not.
