is this some kind of memory leak?
Turn on " Low Bandwidth Mode", "Low Performance Mode", "Disable Community Content".
This will lower the memory requirements quiet a bit.
No , thats just Chromium, the client acts like a Chromium browser, each page, forum ,thread and so on starts its own separate memory process which will add up over time.
Update: It's at around 600mb while running a game. I'm not happy about this.
I did those settings a long time ago, after the blue update, I can't imagine how high the memory will go if I turn those on
I miss the simpler client without all the bloat
no it happens regardless, Valve is awful
Thats just the new client i am afraid. Between 400-800 MB seems to be the memory load no matter what of this new build.
It is what it is.
Then maybe my gaming days are coming to an end. I'm so tired. I just want to play.
To play devils advocate, its 2023. I been on 32 GB of RAM for like 5 years now and plan to upgrade to 64GB soon. RAM is dirt cheap at the moment with a branded 32 GB kit available under 100 bucks in most stores.
With updates and new tech the system requirements for RAM usage will raise over time, it always happened.
So i am not too worried about a few hundred MB usage of the Steam client to be honest.
But i can also see how its bothersome to some users who have older systems or not much system RAM.
Then don't focus on the task manager and just play the games?
the vast majority of steam users have 16 GB or less, near 1000 MB is almost 1/16th which is absurd and there needs to be a simpler client for those who don't wish to waste, stop excusing Valve's bad practices
This will safe memory.
No everyone in here lives in a "first world" (awful denomination) country.
