"Skyrim - Workshop Content" getting stuck in D/L queue
Problem -
On my son's account, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Workshop Content" keeps getting stuck in the queue after Skyrim is installed (the game itself installs and runs fine) with a status of "Stopping". Whenever this happens, anything else we try to install gets added to the queue behind it, and won't install (they get stuck at "Preparing [game name] files for installation...").
Items added behind it in the queue have two other options - "Download Now" and "Remove", but Download Now doesn't actually do anything. The Skyrim - Workshop Content item has no Remove button, it's forever in "Stopping" limbo. I've also tried verifying game integrity for Skyrim, but the progress bar never advances, as if that action is stuck in queue also (again, the game plays fine).

We reinstalled Steam the first time to fix it, but here it is again two days later, and I sure as hell am not going to reinstall Steam and all of his games every couple of days. Found quite a few threads online with problems getting stuck at "Preparing [x] game files", but no solutions that work for this specific issue. Any ideas?

I managed a minor workaround to install the other games, but it's not a solution if he ever wants to play Skyrim, so I still need to find an answer.

If I delete Skyrim local content, then switch download regions, then force a restart of Steam (this thing in the queue doesn't even allow Steam to close), it'll disappear from the queue so I can install other items. It goes right back there the moment I try to install Skyrim.

I think I've found a solution as I had exactly the same problem - disable autoupdates, use Windows Run and type in steam://flushconfig - which reboots the download config - think it's a problem with one of the main mods updating, SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) which most other mods use as a base to add new lines of code and menus and such.

Thanks, that worked like a charm!

I run the the steam://flushconfig and the problem is fixed but once i restart steam garrys mod workshop content appears in the queue again. EDIT. had to uninstall garrys mod to fix the problem. Oh well.

THANKS M8! i had a gmod workshop download stuck and now its gone. Thx alot! :steamhappy:
Cool, thanks E.J.Hace! I had an Unturned workshop item that was spamming my download. It would constantly pause and restart, at least 5 times a SECOND (very fast). It had done this for a few days, but flushing the config fixed it.

That was fixed over a year ago by simply typing something in Run, without having to unsubscribe from mods, as the first response shows. But thanks for the zombie.
