Can you get other's ip address if you host a local server?

Let's say, in left 4 dead 2 or cs go you host a local server for versus match and you play with randoms. Will you be able to see anyone's ip addresses in the console by typing status?
I read in reddit that you can if you type "status" and it will desplay each ip of the people playing in your local server, I tried this myself in left 4 dead 2 (just to see if its real) and I cant find the actual ip, just steam id. (maybe I didnt do it correctly)

I am asking this because I recall a couple days ago a guy who was hosting a local server on left 4 dead got really mad and threatened my team to ddos because he could see our ips through console, would anyone who knows care to explain this? if this possible to see ips if you host a local server?

note: in case it's not possible, why third party servers can see your ip but users hosting a local server cannot?
