Clear cache and cookies.

Top left of client click on Steam > settings > web browser > click buttons for both cookies, and cache to delete, and restart client.

See if issue been resolve. If so that mean app had cache issue that wasn't dumping.

I just terminated the process that used more RAM about 700 ram compared to a second process of 200 MB
and doing so closed the chat window.
I think is the chat

I just did.

I don't see a big difference at the moment. I'll have to try tomorrow when I'm playing some game.

Thanks for your help, I will comment on how everything goes after cleaning

Turn off animated avatars & animated frames in the chat options.

You can also enable Low performance mode & select "disable community content" in the clients Settings.

Steam Client WebHelper is famous for this, though it's not a problem on my system, where I have 32GB of RAM.

On average, this process can take 300MB, or more of RAM, when chats, or the friend list are open. (currently using around 600MB on my system)

I generally do not use my friend list, or steam chat, so i don't see this very often. I don't have any in-steam solutions for you that haven't already been suggested, but I do have some alternatives that may help lessen the load on your RAM.

1. Close any unnecessary programs, when running Steam (such as your web browser, other game launchers (eg EpicGames), cloud services (eg dropbox), and the like)
2. Use an external program for voice, and text chatting, instead of the Steam chat. I recommend Discord, as it has a smaller memory footprint than Steam chat does. (Mine generally doesn't even reach 300MB, and I never close it)
3. Remove unnecessary items from your startup, and restart your computer. This can be especially true for Windows, where countless apps add themselves to your Windows Startup, when you install them.
4. Uninstall apps that you don't use often. Doing so, can potentially remove some background services that they may have installed. (eg Microsoft PowerToys is a good example, as it keeps some services running in the background at all times, as long as those services are enabled)

Hope this helps at least a little bit.

My Steam takes about 150 MB when it's closed down. So basically nothing for me with 16 GB RAM.

My Internet browser Vivaldi takes 900 MB and I'm not even watching any videos on Youtube.

Even if I where to have Steam open it means I'd be using it so it doesn't matter if it takes a bit extra.
