Why won't steam let me recover my account?
So I had an old account I used. I went on vacation and came back and couldn't login and was surprised. This was a while ago. I tried sending steam support a message about it and they said hey can't reverse any thing that had happened. I was like what? They said they can't remove the fraudulent charges that had happened. I told them I was hijacked and they completely blew me off and said I could t recover the account after I had repeatedly asked if I could just get the password and email changed. I'm not sure why they wouldn't tell that it had been used in a different IP, but apparently three are stupid. So I made this account as a temporary account until I got my other one back and since I never did I just went ahead and starting using this one. I've always wondered why I couldn't get my account back because it was hijacked.

Do you guys know why?

No, I don't know why.

Could you post the logs from the Support ticket? Support should be able to recover an account if it gets hijacked, but they can't do anything about the charges.
I've long since forgotten which email I used and what the password was to my steam support account I used. I've also recently started using a different newer email as I've had too many to keep track of so I made a new one as my permanent only one. So u don't have any way of getting those screenshots.

you post doesn't make a lot of sense , you're leaving out a lot of the pertinent details .
did you lose your account or was the account closed ?
is there a disputed charge ?
what about the fraudulent charges ?

Hijacked doesn't mean closed. Hijacked means I lost it to someone else.

Walk me through what happened. What I understand is you went away and came back to find you were unable to log into your account. There were also charges you didn't authorize on it.

You contacted Support after this.
They never asked me anything. All they told me was I couldn't reverse any changes made, what apparently was a fraudulent charge used on my account. So in their PoV it seemed as if I was trying to reverse it when I had reported it as being hijacked and wanted to repossess my account, back to it's original owner me.

I submited the ticket after getting back from vacation because I had noticed I couldn't login and I had an email that had said my email was changed.

When you did this, did you do a chargeback of those charges on your account?
Nothing was charged to my account so there was nothing to charge back. I don't save payment info so someone used a bad card that got rejected several days after first going through successful.

I would look over these support articles and see if they help you.

I decided not to care about steam support as they wouldn't help me recover a hijacked account.

to recover a hijacked account you have to be able to prove it is your account , that means you supply steam support with the information they ask for .
if you can't do that either because you refuse to or can't then you lost the account . you have to take better care of your things . you are responsible for your account .

contact steam support and do what's required .

for some reason i get the feeling there is a lot more to the story you tell ,
if you lost access to the account how would you know there was fraudulent activity on it ?
if the accounts hijacked why would steam be contacting you in regards to fraudulent activity ?
if your hijacked steam would be contacting the person who stole your account , not you , you wouldn't be aware of the illegal activity until you retrieved the account
people use hijacking as an excuse for fraud , "it wasn't me , i was hijacked"
did you buy the account from someone ?
your story sounds like just that . a story .
it doesn't sound believable , it sounds like someone trying to cover up illegal activity

I tried stating I could supply information to show proof that I was owner but because it was locked or whatever they didn't care. Why would go out of my way to ask you guys something if I hadn't tried already, like a year ago, what you are just basically repeating the steps I have done.

I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't tried it already. I'm not one of those idiots that hasn't the slightest of ideas on what to do.
pike Feb 28, 2016 @ 1:14pm
why are you even posting here ?
if you know how the system works you know nobody here can do a thing to help you , account retrieval can only be done through support .
what's the point ?

I asked a question you guys can answer, not how to recover my account...

Basically; you send the required proof of ownership as listed and if they deem you are the account owner; they will unlock it immediately. Support deal with over tens of thousands of these cases on a monthly basis.

However, your OP is somewhat suspicious - it sounds like fraud was committed on the account and despite you claiming it was hijacked; Support found no evidence through IP logs or location fixing that you were compromised at the time. If the account was deeply compomised and flag for fraud; it's best to let it go and continue on your current one especially if you have no proof of ownership or don't even know the personal details attached.

Steam Support are foolproof though and all activity can be easily traced and determined.

your posting from a 1 year + account that's active , so that's not a temp account ,
you refer the the lost account as "one you were using " .
none of what you say has a ring of truth .
it all sounds like you got caught in some shady activity , and now are looking for a way to get around it (at least a year later)

I said I made this one for a temporary purpose, but since I couldn't get my main back I continued on this one... Read much?

And I tried supplying proof of ownership, paypal purchases, cd keys from physical copies of games I own, steam wallet codes I kept in case.

Like I said, went on vacation came back and couldn't login. Email was changed, somehow, but my email wasn't compromised somehow mainly because I use my phone as a verification process.

Nonetheless. Since I can't get a simple answer from you guys and I've supplied enough info I'm going to leave this thread be. Reply if you want, but I'm unsubscribing so i don't get notifications of replies.
