Can acievements be reset?
Just wondered if its possible? I can't see anything in settings or for the games themselves.

There are a few games I have 100% but thinking of playing again. Collecting achievements again would be a little extra for the playthroughs for me.

Cheers.

Officially no. You could use a external program like SAM (Steam Achievement Manager) to lock the achievements again but that can lead to buggy achievements that dont trigger correctly.
If you just want to play through the game for fun and getting all achievements again the easiest way is to create a new Steam account ( or use a existing second account) and family share your games to that account from your main.
On that new account you then can start the game fresh from the start including doing all the achievements.

Yes. Valve offered an option for resetting achievements in TF2 for example. Ask the developers to do that for you.

If the game devs have implemented a reset, then yes. Some games do have that, like TF2, Factorio and Terraria. But it's up to game devs to implement it. Otherwise you'll have to use workarounds.
Ahh ok, thanks for the reply all. Will look into a few of those. Not sure I want to go messing with code though lol

It's complicated.

S.A.M. can be used to clear the achievement records from the account, but that doesn't mean the game will continue to update Steam when those achievements are met again. What you see in your Steam profile is essentially just a ledger of what the games have told Steam what you've done. The games control the achievements, Steam simply records them.

Some games will allow you to clear them in the game, others won't. Some will sync the in game records each time the game loads. I've had this happen even with family shared game to an alt account. Some games save achievement records to a local file, others only sent Steam the unlocks when certain events or thresholds are reached.

You could clear an achievement that tracks the number of kills in a game, like 1000 headshots, and the moment you go back in and score your next "first" headshot, the game thinks you completed the 1001. You'll either see the full achievement unlock again with that "first" one, or never again even after you've surpassed your next 1000.
