Changed currency by a mistake.
Hello,

I'm living in Turkey and I wanted to buy some new games but I misclicked when I'm on page of buying games instead of cancelling it, I just changed to currency and it didn't even have a confirmation from me but changed my country where I live from my settings and currency had changed, lul. I contacted with support but what else can I do?

Any idea? Also, I didn't buy anything after changing incorrectly.

My problem is SOLVED! Appreciate Steam Support and ppl who supported thread.

It isn't a mistake. Steam now has an AI system which detects region hoppers and automatically changes their account regions to what the system thinks they are originally from. That means steam thinks that you are a regional abuser.

If you are really from turkey. then just provide proof (passport, driver license, utility bill, etc) that you are living there and they will change you back. Some who are ACTUALLY (as in living there) were mistakenly changed but once they showed proof to steam that they were actually from that country, steam manually changed their country back. It's only hard for those who are not actually from that country.

It is a mistake cuz I'm not an abuser.

Yeah, I'll keep that in mind, if they want that I can provide but isn't that meaningless to share your personal items with a random platform for no reason but AI made a mistake?

Not really. If you provide them with documentary proof, they could set a manual flag on your account so that the system does not ever change your region again unless you try to change it to something else that you do not belong to. Region abusers are not able to provide such proof so even if they change it back, the system will change them back to their original regions again and they might be banned too. So think of it as insurance for your account, something like a verified account.

You now have a 90 day cooldown on changing it again.

If steam is able to verify that he is actually from that country, then they will manually change him back regardless of the cooldown. I remember seeing another similar thread about it.

No, I don't think so because after I see that happened, I didn't buy anything via a credit card etc. from USA. I mean, I don't have anything to buy but it needs to be confirmed by second action to proof that you live in that country as I read notes of Steam support. I might be mistaken but.. We'll see. :) So, it's not like I confirmed the mistake. Hopefully they are gonna fix it sooner cuz I still wait to buy games that I wish to play and time goes on.

Let's see what I'll get in a few days. I'll keep updates about this thread.

Thanks for the help overall.

But it's still doesn't make sense. I'm an average player without any illegal transaction or whatever and one day my currency changed for nothing, doesn't make sense still.

How did you get back to your currency?

Do you currently live in Turkey? As in you are physically present in the country?
And do you have a Turkish registered bank account or credit card?
If you answer either of those with "no" then what Steam did was correct and they will not switch you back to Turkey.

I have been living in Turkey for like over 27 years and still in Turkey, created this account in Turkey, logged in from Turkey yesterday as well. Also, steam says that ''We see that you are in Turkey rn, you were in USA but now it seems Turkey.'' I don't really know what the hell is going on but gonna try to fix it. I have everything about bank accounts and so on but it is not the case. Suddenly my currency get changed for nothing and it happened for anyone without any information. This is sad and wasting my time.

All things you asked is yes, not even one of them is no. :lol_tk:

Update:

I checked my history of logins and there is no such a data I've logged in from USA or anywhere else rather than Turkey and they answered my ticket and said ''we can not change your region by ourselves''. But you did it once I was standing stable, lol.

Let's see what's going to happen. I have everything as a proof that I'm legal and not having anything illegal including my trade history and so on. This is a real bug and need to be fixed.

there are no ways for the public to see which regions you have been in.
however you can yourself see it, either by opening the console in the client then write license_print and it should tell you.

where to write license_print though?

it says ''You were from USA but now we see that you are from Turkey.'' Lol.
I haven't been in USA even in my profile's logs shows it but Idk how that happened. Also, if you can buy successfully after changing your region, it will be completed but after seeing what have done to my profile, I haven't buy anything indeed so it's like not really completed, like I'm not officially from USA in anycase but not in Turkey for now either because a lots of people in turkey when they try to buy it via credit cards and so on, there is an issue it happens... Idk what's happening but it's really disturbing at all. Hope at least after 3 months gonna give me back my region, lol. I mean, even though I seem like now I'm in Turkey but it doesn't allow me to buy something.. Idk how to fix. Hopefully global problem for Turkish ppl.
