Steam Update Broke My Controller
So. Steam updated last night, and now my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro flight stick is no longer detected by Steam. I've been using this as a one-handed controller in Steam for two years without issue, and the controller still works flawlessly in every other program I use it on, so the controller is fine.
Any ideas, including and especially instruction on how to roll back a Steam Update would be appreciated.

The x3D issue pertains to Xinput only apps. If an app supports Dinput, then it can still utilize old Dinput controllers like the x3D. Xinput only apps cannot. However there is an Xinput emulator: x360ce That will map Dinput controllers to xBox controller buttons and axes. Steam will detect it as an xBox controller, and Xinput apps will be able to use an old Dinput controller as before.

Standard client - you cannot roll back an update.

You can switch to the beta client if you are not on it to see if that fixes the issue.

Note: you can rollback to the standard client.

Thank you very much for your reply. Switching to beta didn't work, but I'll keep it in mind for future update-related issues (of which I'm sure there will be many).

I too am left without my trusty Extreme 3D Pro after the last Steam update. Has anybody figured out a way to restore its functionality? I tried the brute force stuff like removing it in Device Manager to no avail.

I reached out to Steam Support about this and as you might have guessed they punted. Said to check all the settings in Big Picture mode, blah, blah. Hard to do anything with settings when Steam can't detect an Extreme 3D Pro in the first place. Sure hope somebody figures this out, really miss being able to play my favorite driving games.

This worked. Thank you very much. Where Valve just couldn't be bothered. hang on, let me quote them...

Edit: I was going to show them the fix you came up with, but they closed the ticket, so I can't.

Glad I was able to help. I was unable to play one of my favorite games for over a month until I found x360ce. Guess its developers deserve the real thanks, think I'll send them a donation.

Ok, so imagine you're a person who isn't a computer programmer and HATES going into to reg files, dinput, x3d xinput ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to fix things they should never have to in the year 2023.

I did the update and when I went to play a game, my controller didn't work. How do I fix it since I'm obviously going to have since Steam doesn't seem too compelled.

I downloaded x360ce from www.x360ce.com, then I ran it while my controller was plugged in and went through the layout screen and assigned the buttons to do what I want. This application must be running for Steam to recognize the controller, but minimizing the app sends it to the taskbar, out of the way.

I had a bit similar issue and https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3543798390529471095/ helped . I didn't even edit that file, just deleted config.vdf, had to login to Steam again, and controller finally worked again, instead of only making silly noices on use.
