Slow dowload speed?

To make it short i have a 123Mb/s cabled internet connected to my pc but steam wont download at any higher speed than 12mb/s!!! Help?

No, you don't. You have an internet connection of 123Mbps (megabits per second). Steam (as well as every other service I know) measures download speed in megabytes.

What does this mean? Simply put, your downloads are pretty close to the speed they "should" be. 1 megabyte = 8 megabits, so 123Mbps equals roughly 15 megabytes per second. Why aren't your downloads 15? Call your internet provider-- it's most likely on their end.

Or he misread and has in fact a 100MBit connection, which would equal 12.5Megabytes per second. Which is pretty much what he gets. Never seen an ISP delivering such an odd number as 123MBit.

I'm assuming he took the number from a speed test. And, you're right, that's probably the case.

I assure you that I paid for an internet package of 130 MEGABYTE / second LOL I'm not paying 140$ a month for nothing! it's written on my contract ...

Videotron offers up to 1 GIGABYTE second for something like 200$ per month xD....

Those are all Mbps, You can change the steam readout to Mbps if you like in the steam settings download section. 120/8=15

Go to speed test and post your results here.

One thing that often gives people confusion is the difference between a Megabyte (used for file size) and a Megabit (used for download speeds). People often assume that a download speed of 1 Megabit per second (1 Mbps) will allow them to download a 1 Megabyte file in one second. This is not the case, a Megabit is 1/8 as big as a Megabyte, meaning that to download a 1MB file in 1 second you would need a connection of 8Mbps. The difference between a Gigabyte (GB) and a Gigabit (Gb) is the same, with a Gigabyte being 8 times larger than a Gigabit.

So it takes 8 Mb (Megabit) to make 1 MB (Megabyte). A 123 Mb.s connection is 15.3 MB/s.

ISPs always list their speeds in Mb because higher number look better to the consumer.

Take your own link for example.

The $33 a month plan has speeds of 5 Mbps. That is 5 Megabits per a second. That is less then 1 MBps (Mega-u]bytles[/u] per a second) download speeds show on Steam's default view (MB/s).

But when i had the 30mbps plan i had a download speed of 15 mb/s too so this is not making any sense

Sounds like your ISP was already giving you similar speeds, despite you only paying for 30Mbps.

We are speaking about facts of data speeds. If there is a glitch on your ISP's end, that is only something we can make a guess about.

... ill call the technical support then... i really dont know what to think im paying for a blazing ass internet and i get a huge pack of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lol Ookla is telling me that i have a download speed of 123Mb/s and an upload speed of 19Mb/s i really dont understand all of this....
