<SOLVED> Shortcuts finish by .url and are not working
Since several months (probably some Steam upgrade a while ago... or may be it's since I've upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 ?) the shortcuts that allowed me to launch my games have now ".url" at the end of their names and nothing happens when I click on them.
That's the same problem when I buy a new game and ask to have a shortcut created on my desktop : it creates it with .url at the end and I'm unable to use it.
Hopefully I'm still able to launch my games with the button "Play" in the Steam software, but I'd rather still be able to launch them without starting Steam client first.
If you have a solution please let me know
PS : Also, I forget to tell, but I don't anymore see the small pictures of the games on the shortcuts

You can modify the shortcut by adding the necessary Steam command that will enable you to run it. It sounds a bit annoying especially when you have that problem but that is the only way.

steam://run/440

440 is the application id for Team Fortress 2 if you're wondering.

Should I add that line at the end of what I've already have in my .url file or instead of what I already have ?
And if you make a right-click on one of your shortcuts, and look at "Open with", what is indicated as default software to open it with ?

It is a web document so it has to be opened by either Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox

And a correction, it is steam://rungameid/xxxxxx

.URL files should be set to open with Internet Browser. It should not be set to a specific browser.

Yes ! Thanks a lot now when I click it works !
All I needed was to choose to open the shortcuts in question with Internet Browser. :steamhappy:

I was very sure that it would have been IE but on the case of IE not existing, what would it have been as i'm sure it could be associated with other browsers.

But anyway, glad the OP sorted it out.
