Is Steam able to provide date and time of a certain key activation?

Hi,

I have purchased a key to a game on one of the keyshops and when trying to activate, it says it's a duplicate key. The seller has requested that I give him a screenshot of a discussion with Steam that they give me a specific date and time of the key activation, provided it is before my purchase time. Only then they will consider giving me a replacement key.

Is Steam able to do that at all given I can post the key here in the forums?

No one from Valve here. Posting a CD Key in a public forum would be a rather stupid idea.

this is going to be a stupid question now: how do I create a support ticket? those damn support websites don't even give me an option to do that. The key is used, so I wouldn't think it's gonna harm it too much anyway, but will refrain from doing so.

There are people who have said support gave them that info when contacted about it but its hit and miss if you will get it and the biggest thing is that even if you do the site still might not give you a new key because they mainly ask for that because Steam never used to give it out and they could use it to pretend it wasn't them to blame.

So don't bother posting the key here go through support wait and see what happens but the main advice is learn from this and don't use that site again.

hardly used the site anyway, but I still have no idea how to get through to support... site doesn't allow any live chat or any ticket raising in the categories I'm going into, which would relate to this info anyway.

i have to say it really sounds bizarre .
you bought the key , it doesnt/shouldnt matter when you tried to activate it , it came back as being already in use/duplicate .
whoever you bought it from sounds shady ,
i would press them to refund your money, contact your bank let them know what happened ,
steams not involved in the transaction so you might be able to cancel the transaction without negative recourse from steam , but before you do anything along those lines check with support so your account doesnt get locked or limited

selling an unusable key ,, that's fraud

Chargeback. If I were you, I would issue a chargeback. Selling a faulty key and not providing you a usable key (or money back) isn't a sign of good will. And if they don't want to bring some, then why should you?

sure is, but it's a keyshop, they prolly don't care. I will respond to them to say they shouldn't need that info, and just give me a refund. I posted in 'Community' still, hope somebody from Valve will take a look a that. Really hate what they've done with the support site... not being able to raise tickets is a horrible way to go, prolly was following the 'No Man's Sky' launch chaos.
