Transferring User Folder contents from Windows 7 to 10
Here's another question I have while I'm in the process of upgrading my pc from windows 7 to 10

I noticed that a lot of steam games save files are located in the User Directory like C:\Users\{Username}\Appdata\Local etc.

My question is when creating my new username in windows 10, does it have to be the same Username as in my old windows 7?

So that when I then move the save files to the new windows 10 User directory, the steam games can find the path to their old locations?

Thanks

Different name is fine. Just copy the folder with the data and place it where it needs to go. Example copy the Game folder with everything inside it
On win 7
C:\Users\Bing-Bong\Appdata\Local\Game\gamesaves etc.

Paste that Game folder to where it should go ignoring the username change
On win 10
C:\Users\Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo\Appdata\Local\Game\gamesaves etc.
Okay thanks again suicidal. you've helped me alot :)
yw, glad to help with the simpler stuff.......Don't get things wrong then hah
Different Windows Account UserName is fine; but make it one word; no odd characters or spaces. Avoid using Microsoft Account as your actual account login. Use Local Account. As for OS such as Win8/10 you can always then just enter the login for things that need it and even have it remember it, such as for Windows Store / Apps.

Keep an eye on these key folder structures for various other misc game files; many games use these for save game files, configs, etc.

C:\Users\#YourUserName\AppData (both Local and Roaming)
C:\Users\... \Documents
C:\Users\... \Saved Games
C:\Users\Public

Try using GameSaveManager, it helps for easy backup/restore of saved game files; as it supports a huge range of games.

Be mindful of you allowing games that support it, to use the Cloud Save Sync feature in Clients such as Steam, Origin, etc. As sometimes you can get yourself into a bind to which could wipe your saves out if you go on another machine, such as having cloud sync enabled and then start a new game, the sync method then saving only that new saved games, wiping out all the others you had. Then re-sync that when u login on another machine; such as your main gaming PC you had all your high-progress saves on.
