If you wanna test how it looks you can just start steam in big picture mode on your current PC. There is a setting to do this when steam starts.
You can buy steam machines if you want a PC for your TV that can play the linux games that are on steam.
Or you can plug your existing PC into your TV or buy a new one and it becomes the steam machine.
If you use steamOS/linux then you can't play every game like GTA. You can check yourself if games support steamOS.
Steam link can be explained by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mraRO_BNQG4
If you want to play the games you play on your mac on your TV then a steam link is great! You will need something to play the games with like a controller but you can plug in keyboard and mouse I think? You could install windows on your mac and then play GTA 5 on it in theory but not sure if your mac or any mac can handle that real well.
Steam Machines can be nice but it doesn't have all the games, you can install windows if you want though? Maybe they are a bit expensive, I'm not sure.
Best option is probably to build a PC yourself or pay someone to do it, then you can install windows and play everything. If you want this then there are sites like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/
Here is a prebuilt PC on sale that might not be terrible: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/5kaw0t/prebuilt_dell_alienware_gaming_pc_with_intel_core/
One hell of a deal in fact.
But that 600$ alienware PC is a crazy-good deal for the stuff that's in it. You should never buy it for the normal price but that sale-price is crazy.
I bet it costs less then a mac that's even close to that.
And you can off course use it for other things then gta5. There are loads of games on steam. :)
Dishonored 2 is not on mac or linux for example.
One problem is that it's a big PC case that might not fit under your TV, HDMI cables can be long though.
You might want a controller and something but that is a powerful machine.
Sure a PS4 might be cheaper but that has less freedom and less options.
EDIT: they are talking about those PC deals here: http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/11/154644787617989609/
Ask if you have any questions there, I'm going to bed.
Maybe the deal is over..
