question about backing up games.
so I got a question about backing up my games. for christmas someone bought me a 5tb external hard drive and I was planing to use it to back up my steam games.

but I have two concerns. question one: where do I put the games when I take them off the external drive?.

Question two: will doing this trigger some kind of anti priacy measure and render the games unplayable?

if anyone could help me that would be great :D

The easiest way to backup your Steam games is to just copy the whole Steam folder over to the external HDD. If you ever have to reinstall Windows, just install Steam and then copy over the folder from the external HDD and overwrite everything. Tada, all games back and installed.

The second method is using the Steam Backup function. Right click an installed game in your library and choose to make a backup. As target destination set your external HDD. Steam then repacks the game files to their preinstalled state and saves them in an encrypted file on your external HDD. If you want to reinstall you can just choose the " restore backup" function and the games get reinstalled.

thanks a bundle!

just a side question for my friend who wants to know.

would the same method work with other storage devices? IE:CD's,USB Sticks, or Micro SD cards?

USB sticks and Micro SD cards work , for CD,DVD, BluRay you still need a burner to burn those files onto them.

The backup function actually let you split the backup file up into chunks to fit perfectly on multiple CD,DVD,BluRay.
