Advertising with Steam names
It's a horrible trend, please finish this off, i don't play games to be constantly advertised with stupid cs trading sites by peoples names, it's everywhere and a catastrophe, i guess i'm by far not the only one that feels offended by this :slugpoo:

Not much can be done about it. People are able to change their name to whatever they want.

I guess Steam could forbid .com, .net etc. names without a problem, it's needed, to me it's god awful, also limit the 32 signs limit way further down, no one needs 32 signs to find a name, in some games like f.e. rocket league it heavily affects gameplay as you can't see ♥♥♥♥, not to speak of how annoying this is.

While I might be tempted vote in favor of disallowing things that look like domain names in profile names, I'm always opposed to unnecessary restrictions. Which would definitely make me object a reduction in name size, and could even be used to argue against any restriction.

Seriously, just stop reading people's names. I never do, I just read their postings...

Well it's pretty hard to ignore something that is permanently right in your face and giant sized.

Works on the forums, doesn't work in games. Especially if they feature floating names for anyone in front of you or you get a kill notification half the size of your screen.

Do you know why it's in their name though? Yes, most sites are advertising scams but some sites are legit and give you a discount on items if you change your name.

They all scam you sooner or later, that discount is just to bring in gullible and greedy people easier.

I couldn't imagine a more pathethic marketing and am very dissapointed that Steam tolerates their customers being tortured by such methods.

@OP I can agree and disagree.

It def can be annoying to see them in-game but it is their choice to have them in their names and you don't have to go to them, but it really is no diffrent than a 13 year old with another stupid name like ♥♥♥♥♥ destroyer or something eles.

But as the system changes (Steam) and things are added other thing need to be tweeked (like the group invite, I've had no scam group invites since it was changed and love it), since scam sites are a big thing and still growing I think the user names need to have a limit on changing them, have only one name for good or be able to flag these users and they have to change their name to the username they want to keep for good and they won't be able to do anything on Steam until they do and they can't use another website.

It's not their choice imo, i didn't agree to be advertised by other players when i joined steam, i can hardly imagine what a trash these people are and a stupid name is something very else than an advertisement.

Maybe a mod can move this to suggestions subforum.
Aleupo Aug 27, 2017 @ 7:21am
Why you moved this to help and tips? Move it to suggestions or back to discussions please.

Because this is neither a suggestion nor is it a discussion about Steam client. If anything, it belongs more in Steam Community forum.

Forbid .com names is obviously a suggestion in my book.
