Steam Updates Every Installed Game Every Boot?
This is a bit of a weird one. Started happening a few days ago and is still occurring. Every single time I boot up my computer and launch Steam it will proceed to patch every single game I have installed. Each patch takes upwards of ten to fifteen minutes including small games that would normally install from scratch in less than a minute, and I cannot play anything until afterwards. This has happened several times now and I haven't found any relevant information through Google searches. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? It's really starting to get under my skin.

I'm not actually. Were you thinking it was a cause or a possible solution?

Same problem here

Not running the beta client... started up steam, and 220 games all want to be validated for no reason.

I opted into the beta client and it fixed the issue

Didnt change anything for me

Still have over 220 games that say they need an update, and when they validate, it requires them to download 100% of the game again.

  • Close Steam
  • remove shortcuts to the Steam launcher from Start Menu, Desktop, Taskbar, Quicklaunch or where-ever you keep shortcuts.
  • manually remove (written for Windows, i do not know the equivalent for Linux or Mac)
    C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Steam\htmlcache\cache
Note : this is a hidden folder, you need to set hidden folders to be visible in your OS settings.
  • Then restart Steam with steam.exe in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam or C:\Steam (or where you have Steam installed).
I tried this, it's still wanting me to reinstall games 100% yet I know they are installed. I don't know where to go from here. :(

if you go into your Library downloads tab and look at the list of games installed, right below the play button for each game there is a line that should say if you have that game selected for automatic updates... if it is set to auto-update, then you could go thru your list of games and set them all perform just a manual update only. that might solve it...
