The Steam Frame is not the successor to the Index.
That sounds like an excuse, successor or not it still is considered to be Valve's flagship headset and is effectively replacing the index since they are discontinuing it, and yet it is basically a side-grade or even a downgrade in some areas.
It's not a flagship product and is never marketed as such.
It has some decent tech behind it but isn't meant to be a beast of a machine.
The controllers may not have the hand guard but Valve will let people make/sell their own after they release the CAD files. But the straps are an extra accessory which you may need to use the finger tracking that is still present on the new device.
Did you even see the reveal? They're literally championing it as the next big thing while discontinuing the index.
In a new direction, not the next big step in super VR beast mode machine.
That's just arguing semantics to get around the point, no matter how you justify it the frame is a complete let down
It's all about advancing the space, at a reasonable price, with SteamOS, ARM and the ecosystem similar to Apple but as an open ended system and games at the center stage.
No one needs a $2k+ VR ultimate gear, especially with tech prices getting wrecked by AI.
A reasonable price? LMFAO it wont cost less than $700 which makes it DoA when the Quest 3 is in the market and does most of what it can and more.
DoA was a good franchise too. It offered up something Dragon Quest 3 didn't. See, there's room in a market for similar, yet different things. And if you don't like a thing, no one is going to force you to buy it.
Actually there was plenty of agreement, but you're welcome to keep believing what you want
