The steam frame is basically corporate slop
In Valve's attempt to pander to the Quest 3 crowd, they lost what made the Index special. At the time of its release it boasted top notch resolution despite being LCD, great built in sound quality, and a fantastic controller design.

The steam frame, mean while, is so desperately trying to be what the Quest 3 is, except it's going to cost at least $200-300 more while not having color pass through for WMR. It's a downgrade in the sound system and doesn't even provide a headphone jack, and you can't do wired mode like the Quest can because the USB-c is 2.0.

Meanwhile, the remotes are clearly just the same as the quest, why not stick to what made the index unique? It doesn't have to be charged, and I can understand wanting to make it able to play most games with the standard controller layout, but the grip function is gone, as are the hand moulds on the sides of the contollers (i dont know what they are called).

At the end of the day Valve just seems interested in fluffing Gabe's payroll rather than rolling out quality products.

The Steam Frame is not the successor to the Index.

:nkCool:

That sounds like an excuse, successor or not it still is considered to be Valve's flagship headset and is effectively replacing the index since they are discontinuing it, and yet it is basically a side-grade or even a downgrade in some areas.

It's not a flagship product and is never marketed as such.

It has some decent tech behind it but isn't meant to be a beast of a machine.

The controllers may not have the hand guard but Valve will let people make/sell their own after they release the CAD files. But the straps are an extra accessory which you may need to use the finger tracking that is still present on the new device.

Did you even see the reveal? They're literally championing it as the next big thing while discontinuing the index.

In a new direction, not the next big step in super VR beast mode machine.

That's just arguing semantics to get around the point, no matter how you justify it the frame is a complete let down

It's all about advancing the space, at a reasonable price, with SteamOS, ARM and the ecosystem similar to Apple but as an open ended system and games at the center stage.

No one needs a $2k+ VR ultimate gear, especially with tech prices getting wrecked by AI.

A reasonable price? LMFAO it wont cost less than $700 which makes it DoA when the Quest 3 is in the market and does most of what it can and more.

I can only imagine what you will feel once sales of it start *shudders* thankfully such things don't affect me.

DoA was a good franchise too. It offered up something Dragon Quest 3 didn't. See, there's room in a market for similar, yet different things. And if you don't like a thing, no one is going to force you to buy it.
So desperate to slag it he needed a second topic because no one was agreeing with him

Actually there was plenty of agreement, but you're welcome to keep believing what you want
