Where do you think valve makes most of its profits?
I mean they have made multiple games but does anyone else think that most of Valve's profit comes from steam?

The steam market. They take a cut of ALL transactions. I'm sure they make most money there.
I think they make more profit when people buy keys and cases
Easily Steam. They earn a standard retail cut (which is half that of Gamestop) of 30%. They take a cut of all transactions made in the store with varying percentages. The community items and marketplace brings in a large chunk of change for them.

I don't even think it is close. Steam is easilty where they make most of their profits.
CS:GO skins and cases :(

No, they come from the consumer. All profit is from the consumer.
This, straight to the point/source.
Valve doesnt publish its accounts, so take any figures with a huge fistful of salt, but...

Games, Dota, CS:GO and TF2.
Judgindg by all these responses, makes me question as a developer how useful Steam really is to developers like me that make all these effort to put their game on here. Valve claims they have like 30m accounts, but if most of those accounts were made by players that just play cs:go and dota 2, is it really that important being here/

Well, at least 10% of the csgo accounts are made for trolling, griefing, smurfing, hacking and phishing. I do not doubt that valve does not give away effort in supporting their customers, but I am sure that most are not being taken up by CS:GO accounts, some are TF2, GTA V, and most multiplayer games. Though the CS:GO community does take up a lot of space in the total steam account number.

Yes it does, and if you consider that the most played games here is nothing but Vavle games, and gta v, and i i think some game on EA, it adds up to a big %. Is steam now more or less mostly a Valve game in-game item trading business? They should most likely make a special steam client that supports cs.go, dota 2 and their in-game item releases. It'd be interesting to see the different %s in that case.
