An old topic resurrected. Steam should allow Family View to run different games at the same time as long as its the same IP
So I am going to get a lot of Steam shills here who will disagree with this post but I cannot for the life of me understand why this is not possible under Steam?

Steam can already track if another person from another account who is under Family View is trying to access another Steam account's library. That is why only one Steam account can access that one library at a time.

But if Steam can already detect from the IP address of that computer if it is in the same IP location, meaning under the same family roof or residence, why does this restriction apply? If I have a game I purchased and am not playing it and I am playing some other game that I also purchased, why can't my son or daughter or any other family member under that same roof not play the other game that is not being used? I mean IT'S STILL UNDER THE SAME IP and I BOUGHT THE GAME.

At this point it's just PURE GREED that Steam does not allow this. They can already track the IP of the same origin so...er what the hell is with the restriction? You say you don't want to encourage pirating etc...but IT IS NOT PIRATING. The other family member is just playing a game I ALREADY PURCHASED while I'm not. Like WTH?

All these shillz for Steam coming out on other threads about how you should purchase the same game for every person in your family with their own account are retarded or has made their brains useless with too much "education". It's not education to make yourself stupid. I mean let's say I have 3 kids in my family. WHY THE HELL do I need to purchase 3 separate copies of the same game exactly? People are only asking that any of those 3 kids should be able to play on a game I PURCHASED while I am not playing it.

the game developer/publisher has final say in this matter, not steam. the game developer has a lot more say then you think. not all games can be family shared, and the developer can remove the game from family share at any time they wish without warning.

when people throw the word GREED out there, they miss the fact that they themselves are being greedy. but it does depend on which side of the argument you are on who is being greedy.

You are now providing MISINFORMATION. The developers can omit their games from Family View yes, but the RESTRICTION that will not allow family members from playing in the shared library is DIRECTLY FROM STEAM AND IS PURE GREED.

If the developer did not want that to happen in the first place, WHY would they allow it under Family View at all? They should not be shown as games that can be shared or a message that says specifically so that the developers have restricted that type of "sharing". But most have not and THIS SPECIFIC RESTRICTION is a Steam issue.

What Wolf Knight said, plus IPs can be easily spoofed. If you want to blame someone, blame the Den of Thieves for exploiting and taking advantage of features like this.

Because game companies want to make money and what you talk about will mean reduced sales of their game.

Attacking people and calling them such names is not going to help your case and just be glad they even have this option as other places do not.

Look man you aint fooling someone like me who is also a developer and knows network programming. It's not so "easy" to spoof IPs if Steam implements this correctly and within the same HOUSEHOLD ok? Unless that household has multiple internet service providers giving them different IPs. You are not going to be global hopping IPs and using it to mask IPs when your originating IP is the same F**King one that you started with. So don't talk ♥♥♥♥ without knowing anything about the topic eh?

IT IS PURE GREED.

Er where did I call someone else a "name"? The hell? Shillz for Steam coming out to play?

Everyone that I know who plays on Steam is fed up over this specific topic. This option is easily implmentable on Steam's platform as they already have IP tracking place. At this point there is no reason this is not being done except to force customer to BUY a copy for each family member which is enforcing GREED on a level that is retarded.

Steam is not invincible and if they do not change their policy in this area, they can also be taken down as well as every other BIG companies that thought they were invincible and is going extinct....er Disney for example.

A VPN literally spoofs the IP.

sure it does but one household only has ONE IP coming in through their router from their service provider. Everyone under that roof has the same originating IP. Get it?

Let me be very CRYSTAL CLEAR on this topic here with shillz on here pushing the idea that IP tracking in a household is somehow "hard" or "impossible" to do.

Family View maintains that Steam accounts are shared in the same Family. That usually means under ONE ROOF, within the SAME HOUSEHOLD.

Usually in the same household there is an INTRANET. INTRANET IPs usually are private and cannot be used publicly that starts with either 10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x.

If a Steam client is installed in this type of network, it is EASILY programmable to track which computers in this same INTRANET have which steam accounts installed and being used. Therefore it is EASY to track if someone from the same household is using XXX game while someone else in the same INTRANET network is playing another XXX game from the same Steam account. Because all the computers on the same INTRANET.

You cannot SPOOF private IPs on the INTRANET ok?

GRR.

Also, it is then VERY EASY to track if some other Steam Account is trying to access a Family View Shared Library if the IP of that account is DIFFERENT from the originating public IP of the family's router. Which means at that point it doesnt F**KING matter if you use a VPN or not because you have to have the same originating public IP of your family's router in order for you to be allowed to SHARE.

Family View =/= Family Sharing

Steam does not do Family Accounts they only do Single User Accounts, One User playing One Game from One Account at any one time.

You do realise that it has been this way since day one of Steam, years before Steam even had a store, so no it is not Pure Greed as you say.

This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I used to be able to say play BDO on Steam while my son played another game. The only thing was that my BDO's Steam connection got disconnected. Now, this doesn't work either. I do not see why this is not the case when BDO for example has it's own client as well?

I can only believe from this point that this is a result of PURE GREED that is being pushed through by Steam.

Er then why does Family View and Family Sharing exist? Seems antithetical to the purpose of having a Family option.

It is not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I have been here since day one of Steam. You have never been able to play multiple games from the same account on multiple devices, unless one of those devices were in offline mode.

Steam disconnecting is proof that you never played multiple games at the same time because that is how it works when multiple devices try playing multiple games from one account, one of the devices will get disconnected.

Like I said, this has been like this since day one of Steam (12th Sept 2003) and has been like it since before Steam even had a store. You can either believe that or you can stay in your own little world.

AND AS I SAID BEFORE I was fine with this but NOW this is not even allowed? Why the hell will it now not let me play BDO for example if the Steam account disconnects? I was able to before? As recently as a couple months ago...so this seems to be a recent enforcement by Steam. So you tell me why YOU THINK Steam has now disallowed this? eh? GREED maybe?
