Confusion Regarding the Adventure Tag
I use dynamic collections and the one I use for adventure games always needs a lot of manual cleanup. I think people think the adventure tag is for any game with a character going through something like a journey while I know it in the traditional sense, like Point and Click. Modern games like My Life is Strange I also consider an adventure game.

Did the criteria change and I'm just unaware?

Such definitions are fluid, subjective and not set in stone, always have been. And as time passes, such things change.
Which is enforced by what you say about My Life is Strange.

"Things change", sure. But racing games should not go under adventure ever.

Well, I make my own categories, so the only thing annoying me is that Steam insists on duplicating game entries to the (for me) completely unnecessary group of "installed locally" whenever I'm forced out of small mode.

Steam never set a specific criteria, most of us will have a view from our early gaming experience, so like you I tend toward point and clicks, with myst like games being adventures.

As there's no definition and no enforcement (not to mention trolling) genre's and tags ultimately become meaningless on Steam.

The criteria didn't change; it never existed in the first place...

I've always included "action adventure" in adventures... but in general I don't care what the "genre" is.

I might look at the tags for a first impression -- things like "difficult", "horror", "open world" etc. will usually lead into an immediate "not interested", but even that really only applies to games that I know nothing about, like when looking at the filler material of a bundle.

"Adventure" is too wide of a bucket to use, imo, for exactly the reason you state.

I break them down further myself. "Point & Click Adventure", "3rd Person Adventure"; like that.

While I personally mostly agree...there are games that could easily fall under "adventure" that are also racing games. Test Drive Unlimited games and the Forza Horizon games off the top of my head.

My point being that no genre is as crisply defined as you seem to think.

Tags are user created for the most part.
Blame the users.

Racing games with voice overs are still racing games. I turn down the speech volume immediately anyway.

Isn't that literally one of the main selling points of a racing game? LOL.
