Is this safe? Account security question.
Long story short a friend offered to buy me VIP for the game called Rust, I know the friend very well so I know that is not a scam (at least from his end), but I had to make an account with the rustEZ server first. It went against my sense of good account practise and I probably should of asked here first.

It asks you to sign into their site using steam, I was assured it official and safe, I trust my friend very well but I'm thinking what if it's not safe, so was hoping for some advise and help. I should of asked here first, I feel dumb now, but i'm hoping it's just me being overly worried.

Can I link the page here or is that against the rules? It's a legit server on rust with many players using the VIP status. I just worry about entering steam details into another site.

The page it sends you to when you click "login with steam" says

By signing into (name of website removed) through Steam:

Your Steam login credentials will not be shared.
A unique numeric identifier will be shared with (name of website removed). Through this, blank.com will be able to identify your Steam community profile and access information about your Steam account according to your Profile Privacy Settings.
Any information on your Steam Profile page that is set to be publicly viewable may be accessed by (website)

Thanks for any help.

If its legit, after login on other tab your self on Steam it self and you go sign with Steam the login should look something like this:
https://i.imgur.com/1YoFLly.png

It should not ask for user name or password if its legit

The looks of the site don't matter as it can be faked easily, what matters is if its the real site or not

If its this site:
https://rustez.com/login/

Then yes the login there seem to be with Steam it self
But best just log in on a different page and try then always worth to be safer on that matter

It's simple... if you're logged on Steam (as you are now since you can post comments) then any website which asks for your Steam username and password while trying to log on is fake.

So... go to that website, click "logon" and with Steam and such. Normal procedure: you'll see your Steam username with the question if you want to log on. Cilck yes, done.

If you see anyting else, if it asks for a username/password... it's fake.

Just clicking a scam link doesn't hurt, but actually providing credentials.... that's the real problem.
If I go back to the website and click "Sign in with steam" it takes me to a page but the login details are empty.

I'm only signed in using the steam program on desktop though, not on the steam website.

The login page does actually look like the legit steam page though. https://steamcommunity.com etc
So why not log into Steam on your browser and see what the behavior is?

Aside from that, if you have any doubts, don't do it. Stop trying to convince yourself to do something you don't want to do.

You are, otherwise you wouldn't be able to post these comments. (edit): to clarify: the Steam client is basically nothing more but a glorified browser. And these comments and such actually originate from the Steam website.

But yah: if that website asks for a username/password while you're trying to use Steam for authentication then it's obviously a fake. Empty logon credentials = it asks you to provide a username & password: FAKE.

Really sounds like a scam website to me.

Yes thank you, that is indeed the site. And yes I tried what you suggested and it does look like the screenshot you provided, it does appear to be fine and legit. I should really confirm it with myself first before taking action, foolish on my part. But all seems to be good. Thanks for your help guys. You made me feel a lot better.

Sure, just saying always log in on a site you open your self never on a site that is opened for you when it's about Steam
There is a fake scam going around sometimes where they do a sign with steam and open what looks like an external window to log in that has a Steam URL in it
Thing is its a fake window on there site, and if you login there they got your info

So it's always best to log in on a site you open yourself and then only use the sign with steam where you don't have to provide the username/password at any risk :D:

Anyway, have fun and good luck

Also just because they are not cheating you don't make them legit :wrynhappy: just means they did not try to scam you like that, remain vigilant and have fun
