How safe are mods?
I have found some mods for Superpower 2 and Making History (Gold Edition) that I'd like to download. They vastly improve the gameplay but these mods are old and I should download them (along with a program like 7zip) from an unknow source.

Am I too much paranoid?

Do they contain code? If no then you're being paranoid. If yes, you're being sanely cautious.

Are they on Steam? If not then dont do it.
Steam games should use Steammods
They probably out of date .
When you get a hunch maybe you should listen to it?

That's paranoia. If you were to download a, let's say, custom game mode XML file off FPSBnanana, not using it would be paranoia, robbing you of options for no good reason. Really, no good reason. At all. That's like not leaving your house ever out of the fear to get mugged. Ok, you can do that, or you could enjoy the outside life and simply not go at night into shady alleys.

False there are some good mod websites that are good to use and safe.

Nexusmods is one
Moddb is another

in fact Nexusmods is the superior way to get mods for games, far better than what Steam offers.
Yep agree I use Nexas mods back with Skyrim.
I'm just going on Op comment from an unknown source> They vastly improve the gameplay but these mods are old and I should download them (along with a program like 7zip) from an unknow source.

Maybe I exaggerated when I said "unknow source". There is a guy who opened a website to help people upload mods for Making History Gold; mods for Superpower 2 are made by people who you can still find on the forum maybe. So, I wouldn't say that's a complete unknow source.

But I'm still paranoid about links and downloading outside of steam.

Not to mention that Steamworkshop mods have a 100 MB limit, so every mod that is larger than 100 MB , need to be uploaded on sides like Nexus fe.

And this pages are safe, i use them since years, and never encountered an issue.

Don't trust sources, trust actions. Does the mod contain code or is it just some game stuff? Do you have to manually run anything or do you just dump it into the game's mods folder?

Trusting sources above else is dangerous. A trustworthy source may get hacked and used to spread malware (not an academic example, such situations in fact do happen). So check, using the questions above, if the mod in question is safe.

Paranoia is plain dumb. As I outlined above, you're robbing yourself of valid options while at the same time not even keeping yourself safe. Use knowledge and logic instead. Knowledge is power. Feeling safe or unsafe may fail you but knowing if you're safe or not, now that's both reliable and it just feels so good!

Alright, thank you.

Agreed; Nexus is very reliable imo as well
I never tried Moddb, thanks for the tip :)
