Family Sharing
Update: So she logged into my computer and and I logged into hers to authorize each machine/user. I thought when she logged in on her computer she would she the shared games when she switched to family view.

Were you saying she can only see my games if I am not logged into my steam account??
She justs wants to get access to a game to download. WE are not trying to play the same game.

The FAQ is really lacking.............

I have set up family sharing between my daughters and my computers. Both are authorized. When we log in and switch to family view we don't see each others games to request access. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you all trying to log in at the same time? Because only 1 person can access a Steam library at any given time.

Did everyone login to everyone’s accounts from the different PCs? Your daughters needs to log into their accounts from your PC and visa versa.

Edit: And ShelLuster makes a good point, remember the one active player at a time rule.

You would still be able to "see" the game though.

Sounds like both people did not log into both computers.

Well, yes, which is what the bit above the edit applied to.

The edit was just reminding OP that three people and one account is bound to cause issues.

Right so the fact that they can't see eachother's game is an indication the process wasn't completed, not that there is someone playing or attempting to access the library.

If I interpreted the posts incorrectly, my apologies.

No, you can see the games even if someone is playing, you won't be able to play them however.

Proper sharing is actually not that confusing.

Person 1 wishes to share their library on Person 2's PC. Person 1 logs into their own account on Person 2's PC and clicks the "authorize library share on this computer". Person 1 then logs off of Person 2's PC. Person 2 will now have access to Person 1's library next time Person 2 logs in.

2 pcs logged in and using an account.

Steam can't define MAC address as a problem as developer stated family sharing ok.

Totally fine.

Until you come to games that require time to gather advantage. Then, both PCs can be logged in and cycle loot nearest location. = ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and devalue of game.

Including storing of offline gear giving the tool a x2 advantage over other players. At least.

I find that sometimes the games vanish and the sharer needs to log into the sharee's (is that even a word?) computer again to re-enable them.

Sharing is def buggy. I've had my shares of disconnections in the past.

So I already did all of the above. so frustrating. This was supposed to be my daughters Christmas present.......... Should I just buy her a gift card?

Sure would be nice if Steam actually let you open a support ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say PC2 needs to login to PC1, do you mean sharing your desktop and giving them control to login?
MoonC A T Dec 29, 2021 @ 2:32pm
Ideally it should be in person, which is the whole idea of calling it Family share, not friend share. It's assumed that the person is there physically since allowing someone to use another's credentials is strictly against the Steam TOS. Remote login would probably be permissible since credentials wouldn't necessarily be shared.
