Can't send send photo to a friend.

Title says it but for detail: I tried to send a photo. I click the SEND SPECIAL > Upload an image > I selected an image > hit OK > then NOTHING.

As if I didn't attempt to upload a file. Why? How? :/

If "compact friendslist & chat view" is enabled on the Steam chat, you won't be able to upload images.

The setting to disable this is in the COG icon.

I disabled the compact friendlist & chat view. I even disabled the compact favorites.I still can't upload photo..

Check the file-type and size.

Use another smaller image and see if it's the same issue.

bro i've just tried reducing the file size from 1.8MB to 171KB using photoshop. I still can't upload the file...

My 2 cents
I have newver been able to send a photo to a friend of a non Steam photo say off my HDD to friend in messenger.
Screenshots from games on Steam are shared and copy and paste URL of said shared photo to friends message. That works.
In order to send a photo you can simply upload a photo to your ArtWork in your profile and list as for friends only can see it.
tell friend or share trhat photo from your Artwork. Open in your Artwork then click on View comments and details takes you to your photo then open share. copy that URL give to friends message box
Or upload the photo to Google drive or a storage place and share that get the URL paste into friends message.

Well, I'm not going to upload a picture of my friend's GF when she was younger on my steam profile as artwork. That aside it still bothers me that I can't actually send photos on steam when I should be able too.... *face palm* thank you for the great suggestions though!

But I still want to address this issue on my steam...

Maybe Steam wants to keep the friends and chat as simple as possible and not subject to abuse.

5 years... as far as i know, the feature where you can upload photos on steam chat is pretty new. As in not even a year old XD it came with the update when they wanted to make steam look like discord.

Thanks to the new chat, we finally can upload pictures directly into a chat window. But Valve, why don't we have the option to directly share screenshots we took with steam with a friend via chat?

PS: What's weird is that I was able to upload image in chat to a friend while I was in game (dota2) via Shift+Tab but not while I was off any game.
