Steam Cloud Saves vs. Local Saves
From what I understand, when it comes to saving our progress with games, they can be saved via cloud or local. How do I switch my saves to be purely local and not cloud-based?

Turn cloud saves off in settings on the client.

settings > cloud

Well even with cloud saves, you're going to have a local copy. So it's not either or. Your local copy is copied to the cloud... this can have some convenience and provide some protection, say in case your disk fails, or your house burns down.

True but I find the cloud system confusing at times which can easily lead to overwriting local saves. Personally I leave it off.

Maybe it's just me, but I've screwed it up more than a couple times.

To be fair, I've never explicitly relied on it and use game save manager to back up save games regularly and store them on dropbox. And I'm not using Steam across multiple devices so that probably keeps things simple too on my end.

This is a great idea.
Is the game save manager with Steam? Or is it a separate program? A couple days ago, the Cloud glitched on me and I lost everything on a game that I was into for 107 hours. So, I figured saving to my PC would be a better option. I don't access Steam on any computer but my own.

No it's a separate thing. I've used it and banged on about it for years.

Just Google the name to find a download of it.

I find it incredibly important, perhaps THE most invaluable piece of software you can have if you have more than a handful of games. I'm not a big PC gamer myself as most of my stuff is on various consoles and other computers, but even then I back up saves regularly as older stuff tends to be unreliable at times.

I have about 1000 games on here and I'll readily flit between loads of them at any time. As such I could play a game this week and not touch it again for months. SO at the end of every week, I back up using Gamesavemanager. I back up everything I've used since the last backup, and then bang that back on a separate "master" backup disc too.

This system has worked flawlessly for me for years. I do the same for various consoles too, on that "master" drive.

Not just you Mooncat. I totally agree with you here. I have found cloud saves more trouble than it is worth, I leave it off too.
