Refunds happened, and flash sales/community vote sales had to take one for the team.

The community vote sales were basically dropped because in the long run. it was basically a sucktastic thing if the game you wanted wasn;'t already super popular to begin with, Flash sales went yeah but they were likely more annoying and disruptive than fun. Sinnce you invariably wound up waiting till the last day hoping your game would go on flash and then rushing to buy when you realized it wasn't. ANyone noticed that ever since the flash sales stopped the last day transaction server errors also went bye-bye.

The joke is, many games just post what would have been the flash deals fro the entire sale, the others simply split the difference between the flash and the base discount. Thusly resulting in a higher net discount for everyone.

Sales did away with all the cheap psychological gimmicks that they used to rely on to tweak your brain into making impulse purchases.

Deep discounts and flash sales were also used as a discovery mechanic, and fell victim to the discovery qeueu, recommendations and curators. Now, they don't literally have to abandon a good chunk of revenue just to get their game noticed.

years of doing so also likely taught them that it's not worth it.

Flash sale is actually anti-consumer.
On one hand, the sales events are much less exciting.

On the other hand, I am wasting far less time obsessing over them and despairing over missing a vote every 8 hours and scheduling my life around the sales event and wondering what I'm doing with my life.

...I'd call that a net plus, personally.

i agree , right now i want to buy a few tales games , if i would have to wait for flash sales , i would end up not getting them and regreting it, now i can simply calculate al game prices , and keep in mind i get pocket money for january aswell ( so i dont have to miss sales because i havent got enough money

wow, 25% off. I can buy like half a coffee with those saves. And the game is only 4 years old, too. Awesome. I dunno - when I got into Steam you regularly had 75% off titles like these - so it was actually worth buying here. I since shifted to buying more games for the PS4, because they still have some decent sales and even if not - ebay provides used products for good prices. Haven't bought a Steam game in forever. And I guess a lot more people pirate games now that thjey can't get them as cheap. Feel rather ripped off looking at some prices here... but, as I've said, ebay it is...

you prefer paying to play online , only have Gamepads , Game discs that can scratch etc
ok , your decission , its always sad when a fellow PC gamer decends into peasantry

Peasantry or not the guy has a point, for years i used to buy games during sales, but now the prices are ridiculously high here on steam, majority of the games on sales are either- i don't care about nor i would ever consider trying, whats up with indie titles all over the place?. I for one want quality games not some 90's looking games. Pc is a master race or a peasant one? lol

Lets face it, nobody is producing quality games as they used to, so paying their premium asking price is stupid. People laugh from EA, is Steam/Valve any better? Either get a game elsewhere cheaper or roll to console. Only a fool would overpay, who doesn't respect his hard earned money.

still , console always is more expensive

Cod has a 17% discount and free online for the next 3 years ( and beyond ) on steam you pay 50€ for it and done , if you plan to play it for 3 years on PS4 you pay over 200€ just for cod ( ofc other online games are free if you already pay for cod but if you just want cod you pay a fortune on ps4 and all games cost full price

How is it Steam's fault if "Nobody is producing quality games"? Thing with EA is, the games on Origin are overwhelmingly THEIR OWN games.

Steam, not so much.

When u put it like that it looks a lot, but if u want to play at somewhat decent graphics on pc u also need to upgrade pc every couple of years, u still end up paying money for either core pc parts replacements or just a better graphics card, 100-200 £ every 2 -3 years, on top of that pc games cannot be resold again, as most of them come in digital form unlike some of xbox/ps4 games.
So when you add all up and if u play many different games through the year, it doesnt really matter if ur a pc or console gamer, costs are not that much different as they used to be in the past. On top of that pc games now suffer more when it comes to games optimisation, purely cuz developers focus on console first and then on pc.

I still game on pc only and my statement was only towards steam sales that their prices have been quite high for past few years during sales, also majority of the games that end up on sales list, are the ones i have no interest what so ever. So naturally i shoped elsewhere.

Yeah, PC gaming is definitely much cheaper if you're at the low end as far as tech is concerned, which is why I am a de facto committed PC gamer even though I don't actually hate consoles and in fact I've wanted to get a Wii U or a Switch for a while now.

But if you get to the higher end of things, PC gaming isn't about being cheap, but about customization, as far as I can tell, and if customization isn't your thing, that's not necessarily an advantage anymore.

It was a general statement, and i only meant steam sales were lacking. it was not my intention to blame steam/valve for shortage of quality games this year or so many years before. Besides valve produce games? when was that? 2008 orange box? just curious ;D
