Characters Are Missing

It's been about a year since I last played. I installed the game through Steam and logged in, only to find I have no characters. Anyone know about this? Is it common? I had a lot of special items, ships, etc. Had a top-ranked toon in Starfleet and a mid one on Klingon side. I had played since release and had an item that even tech support knew nothing about. Will definately not play again if all my stuff is gone, much of which I paid real money for.

Contact Perfect World support. They might be able to recover it.

I had the same issue, had the collectors edition with extra stuff. Logged in and none of it was there. Evidently I didn't link my cryptic account correctly to my perfect world account. Contact customer support and follow what they tell you to do. Once my accounts were linked correctly all my stuff was there.

I have played since Perfect World took over so my accounts must have been linked already, unless something changed in the last 11 months.

You could still play with your cryptic account for at least the first two months, I'm not sure when they moved to PW accounts only. Contact support and see if it is still possible to link them.

Same thing happened to me, and I'm almost certain it's a PW/Cryptic linking issue. Once I got that ironed out, my stuff was back.

they probably delete your chars after a year, not sure, but I connected again after a very long time and my characters are here, have you tried linking your cryptic account with perfect world's one?
here are the steps to do that:
1 - install the game
2 - start the client and log in with your old cryptic log in
3 - it will tell you you need a perfectworld account and open a page
4 - follow the instruction on the page
5 - it will ask you if you already have a perfectworld account, choose No
6 - fill in the form to create a new account
7 - it will confirm your account has successfully been linked
8 - play

As I said, my accounts have been linked and I've played after that.

I got it straightened out. Even though I had linked my account previously, I had to link it again to a different email address. Pretty silly, but it worked.

Cryptic does not delete characters, ever. They have stated as much many times over the years.

They forced people to merge PW and Cryptic accounts just a few months ago, like 4 months to be exact. So chances are alot of people that had stopped playing in the past year still haven't merged accounts yet. Its a bit of a headache to be honest, the merging was handled pretty badly overall and is far from user friendly.

One tip I can give if you're trying to link your accounts as mentioned in the FAQ (check the forums for a link to it I'm too lazy to link it atm), make sure you're using Internet Explorer while trying to merge them. I had the hardest time trying to merge my accounts using Firefox, because apparently FFs security measures block out part of the login process on the STO website. That was one heck of an annoying night of attemtping to merge accounts before I tried using IE... I hate IE.

Yes, but when you log into a game using the account you always had and there are no characters, you kind of think they are deleted. If some bizarre account linking process needs to take place, they should give you that message when logging in.

I followed the directions precisely and when I finally got to log into the game my characters were all gone. Clearly they need to fire their programmer.

Sorry for resurrecting a three-year-old post, but this just happened to me. It's been about two years since I played, and I just reinstalled to find none of my characters exist. What gives? I started playing AFTER Perfect World and Cryptic were linked.
