The Mogh is the 'Mary Sue' KDF Battlecruiser and the new gold standard by which future ships of the line will be compared. That said, it's a very tight-turning ship(very low inertia) and part of the fun of KDF battlecruisers is power-sliding around the battlefield like a drunken T-Rex on rollerskates. When it comes down to raw performance, the Mogh has the rest of the KDF lineup beat.
The Bortasqu has always been a 'love it or hate it' kind of ship. Many people berate it for its very poor agility and extremely high inertia(it takes around 7km for the ship to slow down to normal speed after full impulse). However, prior to Legacy of Romulus, the Tactical Bortasqu had some of the highest offensive capacity in the game(I used to solo Red Alerts and go toe-to-toe with Donatra in mine). These days, it's just a very respectable beamboat. The Command variant, in particular, is a good ship that can take a pounding and dish it right back out.
The Mogh on the other hand is a cannon spammer. She is smaller, has better turn and those 5 front weapons chew through anything PVE in no time. The fleet version has even better shields than the Bortas. Her only drawback could be that she still has below average turn rate for a KDF battlecruiser, but with some RCS consoles (especially Dilithium mine ones) that problem is mitigated. I guess beam would work well too, but to me the cannons are too much fun to even try that.
I wouldn't ignore the other KDF ships if I were you. The following ships make good alternatives:
- Fleet Tor'kaht (nice turn rate, very tactical heavy. Essentially a faster turning Mogh with the traditional 4/4 weapon layout. Also has the Vor'cha model available. Some say this is still the best battlecruiser of the KDF.)
- Fleet K't'inga (may have low hull and mostly engineering powers, but she is the most iconic and fastest turning cruiser in the whole game.)
- Fleet Negh'var (Almost as beefy as the Bortas in terms of HP, turns as fast as the Mogh while having better shields. She is however very engineering heavy and suitable for both cannons and beams.)
- Fleet Kamarag/K'maj (Second best turn of all battlecruisers, GREAT BOFF layout and good for cannons. This is one is the jack of all trades that you can't really go wrong with. Only disadvantage could be her relatively low hull HP, which are still higher than those of the K't'inga though.)
All that said, I'm personally flying the Mirror Neghvar at the moment. Fleet Kamarag has the same layout potential, but I just love the look and feel of the Neghvar more. The non-fleet stats are a very minor price to pay.
