Star Trek Online

How do you keep playing this?
Ever since this game came out (when it was paid) it has always been riddled with crashes. I've never been able to play more than 15 minutes in this game (to this day) without crashing with a corrupt pigg error. I bought the collector edition when it came out and basically completely wasted my money, having never gotten ANY enjoyment out of the game. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It's only this game, and no amount of reinstalling/tweaking will fix it that I have found. I've searched online for hours and never found a solution to this that worked. Any ideas?

No idea; don't have the issue personally. That really does suck having invested that much into it without getting to enjoy it.

Personally, I find the game to be a fun space battle arcade-y simulator. Furthermore, with the customization possibilities, there's plenty of room for me to continue to experiment and tinker. It also leads to some interesting builds that I try to share with the playerbase when they actually turn out decent.
I always liked how the game looked and played...I just can never get through a mission because I crash out halfway through. Anyone have any ideas about this? I'm using Win7 with an Nvidia GTX 560, nothing pirated. But even before I owned this card I couldn't get the game to run without crashing.
Given a catalist I could regail you all with the littany of issues that have not yet been fixed with the mountains of new useless krap added, mixed up with all the systems they just scrap completely or mutate at will. All with a focus of making everything you have obsolete in the face of new content poorly designed and unbalanced.
The Gods of programming blessed me it seems. I haven't had too many fubars. -Although, I won't waste my time of creating another character again, there is a bug, I experience every single time in the beginning, where I have to land on P'Jem. I CTD. Every-single-time. I hope noone else suffer from this gamebreaking bug. It is indeed gamebreaking. You say You crash every fifteen minutes, is it in the same spot or random?
Its in the same spot currently, but if I were to go to another mission somewhere else, it would happen there too. It's really annoying.
What are you doing at the time of the crashes?
Any thing in common with the actions you ayour doing at the times such as for example: "A friend of min running it on Windows XP would crash everytime he would hit any key that he set to push to talk on mumble and tried to run in game."
Are you running in Windowed, Maximized Windowed or Full Screen mode?
Do you run as administrator (Right click and select run as admin or set to always run as admin in teh properties) or set a Compatability mode setting?
Are you running in DX9, DX9 EX or DX11 mode?
Also check that your Graphics and audio device's drivers are up to date.

My Machine can run any game and with the 32" LCD HDTV That I us as a monitor running 1920x1080 or 1080I on some games crash in DX11 Fullscreen if I get them to accept the 1920 x 1080 res yet if I run in Maximized Windowed there is no problems just telling it to run as admin on win 7 pro x64.

So your best bet is to Run as admin.
Make sure that the drivers are all up to date
Check if there is anything that your crashes have in common as far as what you are doing in game. Like the using mumble and using the push to talk button while you are running.
Check is it happens on the other DX modes, Fullscreen and windowed mode.
often if you can pinpoint what is causing the issue you can find a way to work around it.

Try running min gaphics settings in Maximized Windowed mode after launching as admin without any other programs running (including your Antivirus/Security software disabled for testing) in the desired DirectX mode and gradually increase the settings around your crashpoint in teh mission until you get a crash and then just teak from there. That was how I found teh fix for my crash. The Friend's fix is to not talk on mumble when doing ground missions until his new machine is setup. But I think his is just an old outdated machine issue. (almost 8 year old machine I believe)

never happens to me
I never crash. Must be a problem with your PC mate
I actually wonder if it's a firewall issue. I'm guessing it could be an issue of an overactive security suite that's preventing the client from doing the on-demand patches to grab necessary assets.

You could test that by either turning off on-demand patching or by turning off the firewall. Personally I have on-demand patching off regardless. I'd rather have all the game assets on hand than not.
I figured it out. I had to delete and redownload the texture.pigg file because it must have been corrupted when I installed the game. It's just weird that this has happened every time I've installed it. Anyway, seems to not be crashing now. :)
funny you would say that Taien, you bought a collector edition, and only took the time NOW to fix your problem. Good luck.
Bob, I spent many hours trying to fix it before, including redownloading the entire package. It was probably some other error back in the day. I had attempted to installed it probably on 6 different occasions before this and each time had had problems. It may not have been the same error each time, but suffice it to say that each time I spent hours downloading and installing and updating the game, some problem prevented me from playing the game. I'm glad I finally get a chance to try it now though, so I will be playing it more in the coming days.
Cryptic. Cryptic happened.
At first I thought this was a troll post, but I'm glad you fixed your problem :) STO has a lot of new content and updates. It's not the worlds greatest F2P but its' a MMOF2P that I like to use as a standard (Along League of Legends) for how a game should be treated when "free". There are tons and tons of stuff you can do. Players who have free time often have a chance to get rarer items then the richest man (who doesn't have time) IE the christmas breen ship. The community has gotten a lot worse. I remember when /zone was full of star trek nerds... not MMO Elite jerks. However this is what a guild (fleet) is for... and there are tons :)
