Personally, I find the game to be a fun space battle arcade-y simulator. Furthermore, with the customization possibilities, there's plenty of room for me to continue to experiment and tinker. It also leads to some interesting builds that I try to share with the playerbase when they actually turn out decent.
Any thing in common with the actions you ayour doing at the times such as for example: "A friend of min running it on Windows XP would crash everytime he would hit any key that he set to push to talk on mumble and tried to run in game."
Are you running in Windowed, Maximized Windowed or Full Screen mode?
Do you run as administrator (Right click and select run as admin or set to always run as admin in teh properties) or set a Compatability mode setting?
Are you running in DX9, DX9 EX or DX11 mode?
Also check that your Graphics and audio device's drivers are up to date.
My Machine can run any game and with the 32" LCD HDTV That I us as a monitor running 1920x1080 or 1080I on some games crash in DX11 Fullscreen if I get them to accept the 1920 x 1080 res yet if I run in Maximized Windowed there is no problems just telling it to run as admin on win 7 pro x64.
So your best bet is to Run as admin.
Make sure that the drivers are all up to date
Check if there is anything that your crashes have in common as far as what you are doing in game. Like the using mumble and using the push to talk button while you are running.
Check is it happens on the other DX modes, Fullscreen and windowed mode.
often if you can pinpoint what is causing the issue you can find a way to work around it.
Try running min gaphics settings in Maximized Windowed mode after launching as admin without any other programs running (including your Antivirus/Security software disabled for testing) in the desired DirectX mode and gradually increase the settings around your crashpoint in teh mission until you get a crash and then just teak from there. That was how I found teh fix for my crash. The Friend's fix is to not talk on mumble when doing ground missions until his new machine is setup. But I think his is just an old outdated machine issue. (almost 8 year old machine I believe)
You could test that by either turning off on-demand patching or by turning off the firewall. Personally I have on-demand patching off regardless. I'd rather have all the game assets on hand than not.
