How do you get new skills?
I've been playing Star Trek Online for a least a year and a half now, and I haven't found out how to get new skills yet.

On the ground, here I am running around with my Captain pew pewing everywhere, while I see other players do these god like attacks that cluster fudge the enemies!

Its the same in space, the more I level, the less I see of this type of stuff.

Am I doing something wrong? Can someone explain this if so?

You might want to look for Bridge Officer Trainers at either ESD, Qo'nos First City or New Romulus Command - depending on your toon. You can buy training manuals for your bridge officers there, these can be activated under the Skills tab in the officer's status screen.

For the best (tiers of) abilities I would suggest gaining new bridge officers in order to create training manuals yourself, however. It's a gamble and takes more time but it can get you the strongest abilities. The training manuals are account bound btw, so you can transfer them to your alts as well.

When someone says this, the first i think is "what a liar". How in hell you played for a year and a half and you dont know very very basic things like how to get new boffs/skills or whatever? what have you doing all this time? lol.

Well, technically i'm not lying, but to be honest, I didn't play it for a long time because I was into Star Wars The Old Republic, and a few months ago, I just got back into playing this.

You don't seem to be looking for skills per say.

Godlike clusterfudge abilities on ground will usually be due to kit modules, there are loads of them available from various locations such as lockboxes, reputation projects, event stores, the dil store and the exchange.

In space I'm assuming you're seeing spec seating powers or universal console abilities or perhaps boff powers that are more unusual than the commonly available ones, from lockboxes or event stores.

For a more specific answer you'll need to ask a more specific question, what exactly type of skills are you seeing that you don't know how to get your hands on?

What i've seen other players do is basically rapid firing phasers/disruptors or torpedoes, I found the training manuals, but that may not be what I am looking for.

Yeah, sorry I still don't know what you actually want. lol. rapid firing phasers?

Do you mean Cannon: Rapid Fire? That's a boff training manual available from the Bridge Officer Trainers for level 1 and 2, Rapid Fire 3 must be crafted or purchased from exchange.

Do you mean the speed of a ships firing cycle? a clean firing cycle depends on proper buff timing, and making sure certain abilities, cooldowns and shield redistribution don't interfere with your weapons firing.

Do you mean firing cycle haste? That's an ability on many universal consoles and a few spec tree
skills. It increases the speed of a firing cycle for a limited time and when you have a nice clean cycle to start with it can make beams look like their firing super fast.

There are beam weapons from the Kelvin timeline and Discovery that look like rapid firing bolts visually but are actually just regular beams..

For the torps 'Torpedo High Yield' depending on the type of torpedo can fire a stream of up to like five torps at a single target, 'Torpedo Spread' can fire a ton of torps at three or more targets. Boff powers like 'Concentrate Firepower' or Command spec tree skills that can change a normal shot from your torp to a high yield shot even if someone else in the team uses it, there are weapon mods like [spr] that can trigger an automatic Torpedo Spread. Different torps also have different effects like the quantum warhead consoles firing saved up charges or the Romulan Hyper Plasma firing a constant stream of high yield plasma balls. There's really too much to go into detail about unless I know what you are asking for.

And all of the above has nothing to do with ground, going to need more info to actually get at what you want to know.

Like nemesis said, it's difficult to teach you the whole game on a forum post when we don't know what level of understanding you're starting at
